I’m not saying the guy is an oreo or Uncle Tom and I condemn anyone who does.

But there is no question rightwing racists/conservatives will use Mr. Lashley as a vessel to support racial profiling.

  2. mark says:

definately one of the most idiotic comments i’ve read about this episode the last week

  3. Dear jim the dim commenter. Then condemn yourself, logical fallacy boy. Colonel Robert Neville blogspot com.

  4. Johnny says:

left wingers and democrats are the biggest racists I’ve met. jim probably spent the 4th of july burning crosses on black people’s lawns and then blamed it on “rightwing racists/conservatives”. if racism ended the democratic party wouldn’t win another election for at least 50 years. you scumsucking bigots live off keeping minorities (and blacks in particular) poor and dependent of you so you can keep getting their votes.

  5. jim says:

Sorry if it offends any conservatives here but I think most conservatives the past week or so have been using black people like Mr. Lashley as a vehicle to promote racial profiling and to insult Professor Gates.

I don’t buy the cops’ story for a second, considering the woman who made the call denies she mentioned race, and yet race was mentioned in the police report.

  6. KC says:

Jim, you are a complete idiot. Please go away.

  7. OxyCon says:

It’s men of integrity like Sargeant Lashely that promote racial harmony…a man you would want as a friend and neighbor. A man who sees a wrong and stands up against it in a color blind fashion.

  8. Johnny says:

“Sorry if it offends any conservatives here but I think most conservatives the past week or so have been using black people like Mr. Lashley as a vehicle to promote racial profiling and to insult Professor Gates.”

Show some examples. And Gates is a racist moron. He deserves every insult that comes his way over this, as does obama.

  9. jim says:

I think you can just listen to talk radio or read conservative blogs to see that conservatives are using Mr. Lashley as a shield behind whom to hide and throw insults against Professor Gates, who did nothing wrong.

Let’s not forget, the trumped-up charges were dropped.

  10. Jennifer says:

Does anyone else think it funny that Don Lemon took it upon himself to correct the grammar of Sergeant Lashley? There was nothing wrong with the way the officer expressed himself.

  11. jim says:

Also let’s not deny that conservatives support racial profiling.

Obama opposed it as a senator and was roundly ridiculed by conservatives for claiming it is wrong for police to use racial profiling.

  12. Alcove-One says:

Notice how Lemon puts Lashely down; “bald guy” and incorrectly corrects his grammer.
Lemon is a shameless Obama flack.

  13. George says:

Jimbo, the police report was written AFTER the cop met Gates and his driver. D’oh!

  14. VeneCon says:

Jim, why don’t you read some history and see which party has voed to repeal civil rights and to keep slavery? You have been fed lies all of your life and you have believed them without checking up to see if they are true or not. DOn’t read liebral or conservative books, read history and then form an opinion of your own. Stop giving more power through your ignorance to racists like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and join the real world.

  15. Brian72 says:

Professor Gates did do something wrong.
When the officer was going about the business of resolving the call he responded to in a professional manner, the Professor flipped out and called him a racist multiple times, and insulted his momma like some street thug.
    That was wrong.
All he had to do was cooperate like an adult for a few minutes, and the officer would have left on good terms and nothing else would have happened.

Only problem is, this man had to go all Al Sharpton on him and verbally assault his integrity and his mother because he is a race hustling demagogue.

Furthering the race hustling, this good man who was on the scene and saw what happened has been attacked as an Uncle Tom.
I am sure this causes him much pain, because he’s just an honest guy.
Nice going Obama, we’re all getting along much better now, aren’t we?

  16. What is with CNN? The on-screen text says black sargeant, and the reporters toggle back and forth between black and African-American.

  17. jim says:

I think the GOP stopped being responsive to the plight of minorities shortly after the civil rights era.

Conservatives hated blacks and continue to at least be hostile to minorities today. Look at conservative talk radio and blog commentary on Hispanics, immigration, Jews, gays, blacks and Muslims.

    Case closed.

  18. billhedrick says:

Jim, you realize there is an ex-KKK member in the senate? You also realize that he is a Democrat?
YOu are also aware that GWB had the most racially diverse cabinet in history? That many conservatives where clamoring for Condelezza Rice to run for President? You are also aware of how Michael Steele (head oof the RNC) was photoshopped as black Sambo by the democrats he was running against in his run for Senate? That He, and Malkin, and other folks of color are treated as race traitors for not staying on the LIberal plantation. You believe what your masters tell you,not in the facts. Conservatives hew to the standard that MLK set, that men should be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin

  19. Elaina says:

I’m glad Sergeant Lashley is speaking out about the long-lasting, pervasive effect Professor Gates’ actions might have. I sent the following letter to the President of Harvard:
“I am respectfully requesting to know what disciplinary action the University will be seeking against Professor Gates. I am presuming that his unbridled attempt at racially profiling a White officer of the law will be cause for some action on the University’s part.

Please consider the effect Professor Gates’ disparagement of legal authority will almost certainly have on the young Black kids with whom he comes in contact, and those millions who have watched his actions unfold on national television. As the President of Harvard, the ultimate responsibility to try to repair the damage lies within your own power to discipline and teach, so that Professor Gates will be an inspiring example of law-abiding citizenry, rather than a man seemingly teaching, by national example, how to usurp legal authority.

My own son is a White paramedic who works 12-hour night shifts in South Carolina, and he has found that the police already are at a disadvantage within the ’street community’ of drunks and drug addicts, just since Obama has become President. It has become an almost constant refrain that the police are racist and Obama is gonna stop them, begun almost immediately after Obama took office. Are you aware that even EMS (who go into the deepest, darkest corners of society with drugs on their ambulances and only the police to give them backup), even THEY suffer when police are not respected and authority is not ultimately revered by, especially the very lowest of, society? If you fail to discipline and teach and require responsibility from Professors in your tenure, hard-working American men, like my son, are put at even more risk on the dark streets, dealing with those who are lost to a world of drugs and crime and who consider law enforcement to be their inherent enemy.

Thank you for listening, and it is my prayer that you will help Professor Gates to understand the enormity of his decision to nationally advertise, if you will, that Blacks have the right to disobey White law enforcement if they feel the policeman is unjustly opposing them. What a terrible injustice to those who only seek to protect and serve society, with very little recompense (at least not financially).”

  20. VeneCon says:

I am Latino Jim, and a very proud conservative. I don’t need anybody to give me a handicap to make me equal to anybody else. I came to the USA to work hard and give my posterity a better life that my country, Venezuela, could give them. I don’t need and don’t want the government telling me what I can achieve or not based on my race. I have read history and I see what goes on today and the racism always comes from the left and liberals. Can you imagine if this would have been Bush talking about a black cop? Put it in your head man, the least the government has to do with and in your life, the better off you are. Look at blacks in cities, counties and states where democrats or liberals have been in power promising the same crap for a long time. Are they better off than blacks where republicans or conservatives have been in power for a long time? Has Bobby Jindal done more in the short time that he has been the governor of Louisiana than his democrat predecessors? I am telling you the truth is out there, just look around.

  21. holygoat says:

The only case that is closed is the one that has shown Gates to be a racist fear-monger. Obama tried his best to give him cover, and failed in a huge way. The bulk of racism in America resides on the left side of the political spectrum, despite what you’re spoon fed from Big Media.

  22. Rick says:

Jennifer, you’re right - why does the arrogant “reporter” deign to conclude (wrongly!) that Lashley erred in his letter - it is perfectly fine, quite good usage, comma correct, etc. — why does this reporter say: “I … am, I think he left a word out there….” - what a twit! CNN - - barf…

  23. VeneCon says:

“Look at conservative talk radio and blog commentary on Hispanics (I am), immigration (I migrated, so I have forgotten more about immigration than you will ever leran, Jews, gays ( have a gay nephew), blacks (have a black brother in law, the father of the gay nephew) and Muslims.” And then you say of course, case closed. I do listen to them and I hear not an ounce of racism; but of course they are against giving you hand outs so in your mind, they have to be racists.

I’d love to tell you how conservatives would make your life better but first, do the research, answer me the questions I asked you on my previous post and then we’ll seee which case is closed.

  24. ynot4tony2 says:

Jim said: “Conservatives hated blacks and continue to at least be hostile to minorities today. Look at conservative talk radio and blog commentary on Hispanics, immigration, Jews, gays, blacks and Muslims.

    Case closed.”

Give examples. And be forewarned, if you dare try to cop out with, “There’s just too many to name,” or “Visit Media Matters,” you’ll be laughed off this thread.

  25. ynot4tony2 says:

    CNN, struggling to stay irrelevant…

  26. ynot4tony2 says:

Jim said, “I think the GOP stopped being responsive to the plight of minorities shortly after the civil rights era.”

Yeah, genius. That’s exactly what happened. Republicans stopped caring about minorities only AFTER they fought so hard to get them the right to vote.

In what world does that make any sense?

A more plausible (and also accurate) depiction would be that Democrats didn’t care about minorities. They fought against them getting the right to vote. But once minorities could vote, Democrats overcompensated by trying to expand the definition of “civil rights” to include minority set-asides like affirmative action, and patronizing “political corrections” to the language they were so fond of using.

  27. jim says:

Ha, looks like I hit a nerve.

  28. jim says:

By the way, the Republicans who supported civil rights in the 1960s were liberals by definition, not conservatives.

To support civil rights, equality, economic justice and social justice is to be liberal. That’s just the way it is. Again, sorry if this offends anyone.

  29. Jeremy says:

Oceana has always been at war with Eurasia right Jim?

  30. Jen06 says:

    Dear Jim,

Your ignorance is astounding. STFU before you embarrass yourself any further.

  31. Jerry says:

Look at Jim’s logic and u will c why this country is in deep trouble. A second revolution might be the last hope for the greatest country for all mankind.

  32. Mark d e says:

The one sane voice and CNN criticises his grammar?

I’m new here Jim, but you never answered a single point raised to show how wrong you are, never answered a question of how do you justify the proven examples of leftwing racism, not once,. no you just mutter no offense and then gloat about hitting a nerve after repeating every vile lie spoken of conservatives.

    how old are you?

    12?

I suspect you’re the typical lily white paste eating high school hip hop listening to wanna be. All done with the struggle because you voted for Obama and like rap.

Ever shared a sand bagged pit with a squad mate not your color, or shared the same showers, meals, quarters, shared your last dime with a friend, split that last cigarette? Stood by his side when he was called a N**** in a college bar, where they hated serviemen as much as they hated republicans and comservatives?

I’ve seen liberal “tolerance” liberal “inclusion”,

you guys suck at it, and use any hate words you can to blast someone else for the sin of original thought. Whatever your race, you show bigotry to thought, prejudging all conservatives, generalizing us as racist. The definition of racism and bigotry is to prejudge by group,..

    congratulations Jim,

you’re now exactly what you say you condemn.

  33. Francesca says:

I just loved it when the news guy decided to correct the grammar of the letter. IT WAS CORRECT which you will see if you go back and read it. How pompous some of these newsmen are.

I agree that the actions of Gates and Obama have caused great harm because they seemed to say that we will NEVER get past this issue, no matter how far we have already come.

  34. billhedrick says:

see the beauty part is that conservatives have learned over the years the lessons that MLK and the civil rights movement taught, to treat each person as a person, not as a group member, not as a color. The liberals didn’t think they had to learn that so they didn’t and are now the repository of modern racism, groupism and group think. They cannot believe that Officer Lashley is an individual with an individual opinion. He is an Uncle Tom, a Race Traitor. The conservatives appreciate and embrace him not because he is black but because he is right.

  35. Michael says:

Jim must work for the Ministry of Education.

  36. Mark d e says:

Proof of why the conservative and libertarin philosphy of individualism is superior to the leftists collectivism.

Leftwingers cannot tolerate opposition thought, they just go ape when someone from a supposed “safe” group has thoughts of their own in opposition. The irony is that many a self deluded white liberal is going to justify their actions in oppressing a black man because he betrayed other African Americans.

    they know this how?

Their liberal spider senses I guess, but they will do it, and feel great about striking a blow for inclusiveness and tolerance.

    by suppressing another mans thoughts.

You don’t know wether to laugh or cry at the sheer insanity, the massive over weighted irony of it.

  37. Capital G says:

I find it amusing when idiots like ‘jim’ try to paint Republicans as racists.

Republicans fought to end slavery, as Democrats fought to keep it. Slavery was ended due to Republican resolve on the issue.

Defeated on the slavery front - the Democrats then turn to supporting the KKK as the Republicans stand up to the hate group and fight against their message. Republicans who fought against the KKK were attacked by these cowards who hid under their sheets for several decades.

It was only after the KKK was humiliated and forced to the furthest shadowy corners of existence that Democrats finally decided it was ’safe’ to come out and start to support the rights of those oppressed by groups like the KKK.

…you know - after all the fighting and hard work was done by the Republicans.

Typical liberal spin. While they supported slavery and the KKK to the bitter end - somehow they find the nerve to call Republicans ‘racist’.

Steangely they don’t condmen their own actions when the call Condi a ‘house n-word’ or Colin Powell or this Officer Lashley an ‘Uncle Tom’. It is just fine to be racist towards a Republican in their eyes - and when a Republican criticizes their minority members using actual policy and actions - out comes the race card once again.

Thank you, jim, for once again proving the Democrats racist views and their willingness to play the race card when race is not being discussed.

  38. William says:

    Back on topic….
The only real problem that I see here is that this gentleman is being styled as “the black police officer” instead of “the other police officer, who happens to be black”. Until we can get the (unfortunately still relevant) talking heads on the airwaves to speak of people as people first and use identifying characteristics secondarily we are still being primed for disharmony.

    William sends.

  39. anon says:

These anchors are idiots. First, Sergeant Lashley did NOT forget to write “am.” His opening sentence is grammatically correct. Second, if they’d instead been paying attention to how Lashley resented being known as “the black Sergeant,” they would’ve noticed the irony in titling the news segment, “Black Sergeant’s Message for Pres.”

  40. megapotamus says:

What’s wrong with being racist? Barack was in a racist cult for twenty years and that seemed to be just dandy. The Democrats support openly racist policies and always have. Obama and Gates HATE your lilly-white ass, Jim and you had best prepare yourself. For Gates though this is a special opportunity. Like Sharpton and his ilk, Gates has profited mightily from ginning up racial resentment. Congratulations Dr Gates, you have hit the jackpot. The teachable moment for the rest of us teaches a valuable lesson: the true costs of Affirmative Action.

  41. lumpy says:

Jim: “To support civil rights, equality, economic justice and social justice is to be liberal.”

So the only liberals today are conservatives.

The rest of youse guys: Despite all the quibbles, CNN deserves kudos for reading the letter on the air. It doesn’t fit the typical MSM narrative and they could have just ignored it.

  42. ynot4tony2 says:

Jim said: “To support civil rights, equality, economic justice and social justice is to be liberal. That’s just the way it is. Again, sorry if this offends anyone.”

Affirmative action is not a civil right. Giving jobs and assistance based on race, and enforcing the notion that crimes against a minority are more “hateful” than others has nothing to do with equality. Patronizing minorities is not social justice.

After the 1960’s, Democrats did all they could to hide their shameful history, hoping if they legislated enough un-Constitutional give-a-ways that Republicans, rightly so, would oppose them. Then they used this as sort of a Jedi-mind trick to fool simple minds, and people like you, Jim, fell for it.

  43. CynicalOptimist says:

Explain this, black males make up 6% of the population, however, they account for apprximately 41% of those arrested? This was attributed to, not so much being a African American male, but African-American male culture.

It’s interesting, I have many friends from different cultures. I notice quite a big difference of those from Africa as opposed to African-American. Those who are from the African-American cuture are in, higher percentages, more likely to have a chip-on-their-shoulder, than the Africans.

  45. Tony says:

Besides bringing his academic credentials to CNN, Don Lemon is such a pretty man. “Rule #5″

  46. Exador says:

What would have happened if Sgt Crowley WASN”T the officer that taught racial profiling awarenesss and WASN’T the officer that was a local hero for giving mouth to mouth resusitation to a black celebrity. What if he was just a regular cop without those bonefides in his past?

Answer: He would have had his career and reputation ruined by the racist Gates.

  47. Kix says:

We keep hearing about being “black in America” but what I have noticed and what Sgt. Lashley seems to give evidence to is that the white/black cultural divide doesn’t just affect one race or the other in one way. Only those black people that very loudly play the “victim” card are respected in the overall black community. Those who hold themselves accountable for their own behavior and stand up for what is right, regardless of the color of someone’s skin are considered “not black enough” or “uncle Tom’s”. This is no different than during the civil rights movement, when racist white bigots called other white people “n… lovers” for doing what was right. And just like during that period of our history, this “pick a side, black or white” mindset leaves zero room for racial harmony.

One would think that two Harvard graduates would understand this concept more than most; but apparently “Racial Harmony 101″ was replaced with “Vengeance 101″ at Harvard.

  48. neyney says:

Jim look around you. Who runs Michigan? Who runs Massachusetts?, New Jersey? Wherever Dems run things it’s a s–thole! Instead of waiting for the Dems to hand you some hamburger the Republicans are trying to teach you a way to support yourself so you can have steak. Many blacks in this country just want a handout, they don’t want to work for it. That’s why the Dems have you in their pockets to the tune of 95% voting for Obama in the last election. Shame on you! You voted for a guy solely based on the color of his skin, not the content of his character. Speaking of character Sgt. Lashley has more character on the tip of his little finger than you and most of your idiot Dems have in your whole bodies. We aren’t using Sgt. Lashley as some sort of cover. Sgt. Lashley is an honorable man who spoke truth. Eric Holder said that whites are cowards because they don’t want to talk about race. Turns out it’s more that blacks are cowards and don’t want to hear truth when it’s staring them right in the face.

  49. Pathetic says:
