Michael Barone on Pundit Review Radio
Last night we filled in for our good friend, weeknight host Todd Feinberg, and had the distinct honor of speaking with one of America’s leading political analysts, Mr. Michael Barone.
We discussed his new book, The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again
We also asked him about the impact of blogs. He had some really insightful and funny things to say. He talked about the differences between the left and right blogosphere, how he feels like he doesn’t miss much if he goes a day without reading the Washington Post, but a day without Instapundit, well, he could really be missing out on something important. And the icing on the cake, he also took some shots at Maureen Dowd!
Like all of our interviews, this is available for download at iTunes.

Did Barone cover the huge differences between then and now?
Did he discuss Mexico’s constant attempts to meddle in our internal politics - usually successfully - and ask him whether that’s something he’s concerned about or not? If the former, what does he intend to do about it?
Also, how does he intend to encourage assimilation when the leadership of the GOP cozies up to groups (such as NationalCouncil of The Race) that actively oppose assimilation. The NC, for instance, funds various schools that appear a bit extremist and perhaps even separatist.
And, here’s a wonderful thought experiment for Barone: how exactly we could deport 1 million illegal aliens in 6 months? What are his contingency plans and best/worst case scenarios?
And, what term do we usually use for those who assist what is in effect an invasion of their country?

Ditto the first commenter.
Barone made excellent points about the elites not caring about assimilation, but understated the fact that all too many of today’s immigrants are not interested in assimilation. The majority coming here during the past 20 years has broken the law to do so.
