Thwarted Terror Attacks Prove Liberals Cannot Be Trusted On National Security
Liberal Democrat Senators Reid and Kennedy attempted to spin yesterday’s foiled terrorist plot emenating from London which many believe would have culminated in a terrorist attack which would have dwarfed 9-11.
Kennedy had this to say:
it is clear that our misguided policies are making America more hated in the world and making the war on terrorism harder to win.”
“Dingy Harry” added:
“The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists.”
Wow. How novel. Will they ever get it? A major terrorist plot is thwarted by our number #1 ally Great Britain, and all the “hurry-up-and-lose” lib Dems have to say is that it reveals that Muslims hate us? and that if we had not removed Saddam and liberated the Iraqi people from his oppressive dictatorial regime that the terrorists would not have planned this attack and others around the world? If this were true how does one explain the multitude of terrorist attacks on US interests prior to 9-11 and Iraqi Freedom?
What yesterday’s thwarted terror attack proved Senators is that the very conter-terrorist programs that Dems have tenatiously opposed and exposed to our enemies are the very programs that are enabling us to avert future 9-11’s.
In short, Democrats who claim to want “focus” on the war on terror have wanted it fought without the intelligence, interrogation and detention tools necessary to win it. And if they cite “cooperation” with our allies as some kind of magical answer, they should be reminded that the British and other European legal systems generally permit far more intrusive surveillance and detention policies than the Bush Administration has ever contemplated. Does anyone think that when the British interrogate those 20 or so suspects this week that they will recoil at harsh or stressful questioning?
The real lesson of yesterday’s anti-terror success is Britain is:
that the threat remains potent, and that the U.S. government needs to be using every legal tool to defeat it. At home, that includes intelligence and surveillance and data-mining, and abroad it means all of those as well as an aggressive military plan to disrupt and kill terrorists where they live so they are constantly on defense rather than plotting to blow up U.S.-bound airliners.

As opposed to the Right-wing nutjob Republicans who tried to spin the event into a “BE SCARED, AMERICA!” fund-raising campaign, claiming that the event “proves” that Republican ideals (like not letting gays marry) is important in the war on terrorism.
Your article is hypocritical in the extreme. Hypocracy is Un-American and you should be ashamed.
Terrorism and Politics…
Real Clear Politics has a great article, which talks about a poll, which suggests that the failed terrorist plot will not have a negative effect on Democrats in the upcoming elections. In Today’s editorial, the New York Times argues that…
Shawn, Thanks for the comment.
However, you have not rebutted one thing that I said in my post which is that Democrats have opposed the very same counter terror programs that are enabling us to thwart potential attacks like the one originating in Britain. You can name call all you want (”right wing nut jobs etc…) but it does not alter the premise of my post which is that liberal Democrats cannot be trusted with national security. Time and time again they demonstate that they don’t recognize the nature of the Jihadist global threat we face. Kennedy and Reid’s comments illustrated this fact perfectly.
Instead of the vitriolic, incendiary, and vapid rhetoric, try rebutting specifics from the post. Referring to Republicans as “nut jobs” and calling my post “hypocritical” is nonsensical. Why is it that liberal Democrats continue to oppose the most effective counter terror surveillence programs and expose them to our enemies?
I don’t think Republicans like Bush are saying “be scared America.” I think that the message from president Bush was that we need to be vigilant and recognize that, despite what many on the left claim, that there is an actual war on Islamic Terror going on, that actively threatens our national security and that we need to be unified in dealing appropriately with that threat not calling our military terrorists and nazis and not exposing top secret terror surveillence programs to our enemies. Hope that helps.
