We need to increase immigration. High Skilled LEGAL immigration!
We often hear that we need illegals to do the jobs “Americans won’t do.”
Illegals do the jobs Americans would do if wages were not artificially depressed.
We talked on our radio show last night about what to do about the 15 million illegals in this country . Some in Congress have proposed amnesty in one form or another. Our President actually supports a â??Guest Workerâ?ť program and penalties and fines for those who are illegally in this country. Those mealy mouth Senators (McCain and Kennedy) and, yes, our â??conservative presidentâ?ť are dangerously wrong on this issue.
I say that those whose first official act in our country was to willfully violate our federal immigration laws should be rounded up and shipped back to their country of origin. They can, after a stipulated period of time, re-apply for entry to become legalized American citizens. They must have a rudimentary understanding of English, U.S. history, and our Foudning documents as well.
We are either a nation of laws or of men- pure and simple. Regardless of the purported justification for allowing and even encouraging illegal immigration, nothing that any illegal immigration â??activistâ?ť can offer trumps our Constitution. Period.
Sound uncompassionate? All it will take is for one or two terrorists to sneak across our northern or southern border with a loose nuke for Boston, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles to be erased from the map.
We are at war people with jihadist throat cutters who are very good at finding their way into our country. Why make it easier for them for leaving the back door unlocked.
There are also many other reasons why condoning illegal immigration is harmful to our country (illegals use more govt services than they pay in taxes, illegals who are â??guest workersâ?ť donâ??t have any incentive to assimilate and become Americans, almost half of all prisoners in our country are illegals, etcâ?¦)
Another fundamental issue that is often times over-looked in the immigration debate is that we have an urgent need for highly skilled engineers and computer scientists from other countries to keep American high tech companies competitive in the global economy. The WSJ editors explain why this is problematic and what should be done.
Because of archaic limits on visas for skilled workers currently at 65,000 per year, many of our best American companies face shortages of high skilled employees.
It has been estimated that 8,000 illegals (mostly from Mexico) cross the border illegally every day. (almost 3 million per year) If we are going to turn a blind eye to those 3 million who are entering our country illegally who are a net drain on our economy and culture, doesnâ??t it make sense to increase the number of highly skilled workers who will be a net gain for our economy in terms of thier enhanced productivity?
If we want to export our technology to the rest of the world (and “insource capital investment from abroad in our flourishing American companies) and remain the technological powerhouse that we are, it is vital that we start increasing legal immigration of highly skilled workers to perform the jobs too many Americans donâ??t have the abilities (sadly enough) to perform. This is the most vital aspect of the immigration debate that is seldom discussed.
Until we overhaul our abysmal monopolistic government run K-12 school system and turn out kids who can actually read, write, and perform basic math, we must ensure that American companies are able to fill vital positions so that we can continue to lead the world in high technology. This is not only an economic imperative, but more importantly, a grave national security concern since the War on Terror is increasingly becoming one of information, intelligence, and militray and space technological innovation.

Well put. But illegal immigrants are a great source of cheap labor for big US companies and there is no way that they will allow the US government to stop the flow of illegal aliens coming in. I agree with you a 100 percent. I just don’t think it can be fixed.

There is no such thing as an ‘illegal’ immigrant. You are only illegal if you are foreign or ‘alien’ to the country!
Dear Gregg,
You guys did a great job last night. I love our president, but he is dead wrong on this issue. I knew it was coming somewhere down the road, because he spoke about it before he was ever nominated in the first place.
After 9/11/2001, I was hopeful that took of that. I was wrong. So is he. He will lose his base if this passes. He can want it all he wants, and I won’t hollar too loudly. If he gets his way, I’m walking. It takes more that one person to pass a bill, and the cowards in congress, except Tom Tancredo, can all go to…

Optimist, thank you for your kind words. But I need you to be true to your name:) Let’s use the power of the blogosphere to collectively have our voices heard on this one. That’s the reason we do this stuff so we can influence change from the grass roots level. This is the #1 issue in America today period. If the politicians won’t listen to “we the people” they will be sent back home to get real jobs.
Rosemary, thank you too for your kind words. Keep fighting the good fight and rallying the troops who believe in language, borders, culture, and American sovereighnty. We are bigger in size and strenght and will not allow our country to be over-run by crimminals:)
You are our number # 1fan (besides my mom and father in law) in California. We appreciate your listenership!

Hey Greg…have you thought through the impact of deporting all the Illegals?
The Anti-Immigration debate is raging hard these days. Some would like to create a Guest Worker Program, others would like to maintain the Status Quo and yet others would like to banish all Illegal Immigrants. So, here is an interesting question…. what would happen if Illegal Immigrants could be magically removed from the U.S.?
Even by the most conservative estimates, we can assume that the average Illegal spends at least $500 a month. Overnight, the U.S. Economy would shrink by $72 Billion a Year (12MM People * $500 a Month * 12 Months per Year) … a sizeable amount of money.
Now, you may be aware of the Economic Multiplier. Those that aren’t, the Economic Multiplier is the idea of that every new dollar in the economy leads to many more…. and likewise taking a dollar out of the economy…. leads to many less dollars. For example, an Illegal Immigrant stops paying Rent… if the Landlord can’t fill it…then he/she will have less money to spend or invest… then the Vendors that depended on the Landlord’s money would likewise be affect…etc.,
Even by conservative estimates…the U.S. Multiplier is about 7…. so the $72 Billion per Year would eventually become $504 Billion about 3.8% of the total U.S. Economy. This alone would represent a far worse Recession than Post 9/11 or even Pre-Gulf War.
To this we add the Inflationary impact of the loss of cheap labor. In places like California where there is about 4 Million Illegal Immigrants…. the impact on Cost of Living there would be significant. The cost of Goods and Services typically rendered by Illegal Immigrants (Harvest, Food Prep, Retail, Housekeeping, Janitorial, Landscaping & Manufacturing) would probably increase by 25% (assume Cost of Goods / Services approximately 50% of Sales…and Wages would double to meet demand). Overall, it would probably increase inflation in California by at least a few percentage points. This inflation would of course be exported to other states in the country.
Next, there is also the impact on Mexico. Mexico currently gets a boost of $10 to $25 Billion per Year from transfers by Illegal Immigrants…. greater than all Sources of Foreign Investment Combined and assuming a Multiplier of 10…. that is an impact of $100 to $250 Billion on the Mexican Economy…or 10 to 25% of Total GDP. Mexico would go into a Depression outright. Given that Mexico is one of the U.S. biggest Trading Partners…. and one of the few Big Partners that the U.S. has actually had a positive Trade Balance with… it would be disastrous on the U.S:
> U.S. Companies would lose anywhere from $20 to $50 Billion in Export Revenues. If we include the multiplier effect…we are talking $140 to $350 Billion effect on the economy or 1 to 2.7% of GDP
> The U.S. would lose a key source of Currency & Interest Rate strength…the Dollar would devaluate relative to the Euro and Yen, forcing interest rates higher… and forcing greater borrowing from China and other countries (because of the increased Trade & Current Account deficits).
So far… we have:
> Immediate GDP Contraction almost 4%
> Inflationary Impact of a couple %
> Additional GDP Contraction due to lost Export to Mexico of 1 to 2.7%
> Undetermined increase of Interest Rates (increased Trade & Current Account deficits)
It is not hard to project what this scenario would mean…. Stagflation or Depression.

Another comment…I know of at least a couple of Illegal Mexican Immigrants that have served in Wars on behalf of the U.S. Military. Their tour of duties actually earned them legalization.
Given that Mexicans make up a dispproportionate amount of the U.S. Military, I wonder how many of the kids fighting in Iraq are currently Illegal?

Jaun,
Thanks for taking time to respond to my post. While the central thrust of your argument makes sense on its face, your premise is fundamentally flawed in that you disreagd crucial costs of illegal immigration.
You central argument is that the economy would harmed without the steady flow of cheap illegal immigrant labor.
Actually, the opposite is true. Illegal immigration has devastated the economy because they use considerably more government services (healthcare, education, social security, welfare, etcâ?¦) than they contribute in taxes. Illegals represent a net drain on our economy.
Consider the following study taken from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), The High Cost of Cheap Labor: Illegal Immigration and the Federal Budget-one of the first studies estimating the impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget.
Based on data taken from the Census Bureau, the study concluded that illegal aliens used $10 billion more in government services than they paid in taxes in 2002. The study also estimated the hypothetical costs of amnesty on the budget and found that the federal deficit would increase to nearly $29 billion.
Other findings from the study concluded:
â??Illegal alien households on average are estimated to use $2,700 a year more in services than they pay in taxes, creating a total fiscal burden of nearly $10.4 billion on the federal budget in 2002.
â??Among the largest federal costs: Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs ($1.9 billion); the federal and prison court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).
â??If illegal aliens were legalized and began to pay taxes and use services like legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual fiscal deficit at the federal level would increase, from $2,700 per house to nearly $7,700, for a total federal deficit of $29 billion. With nearly two-thirds of illegals lacking a high school diploma, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments- not their unwillingness to work.
â??Amnesty increases costs because illegals would still be largely unskilled and thus their federal tax payments would continue to be very modest, but once legalized they would be able to use many more government services.
â??The fact that legal immigrants with little schooling are a fiscal drain on federal coffers does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a drain. Many legal immigrants are highly skilled.
â??Because many of the costs are due to their U.S. born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth, barring illegals themselves from federal programs will not significantly reduce costs.
â??Although illegals create a net drain on the federal government, the average illegal household pays more than $4,200 a year in federal taxes, for a total of nearly $16 billion.
â??However they impose annual costs of more than $26.3 billion, or about $6,950 per illegal household.
â??About 43%, or $7 billion of the federal taxes illegalsâ?? pay, go to Social Security and Medicare.
â??Employers do not see the costs associated with less-educated immigrant workers because the costs are spread out among all taxpayers.
Also it is vital to note that reagrdless of the purported jstification for illegal immigration we are a nation of laws. The Constitution trumps cheaper produce and hotel stays.
As Americans we support legal immigration and recognize the importance of fostering a diverse nation of productive citizens. However, we oppose illegal immigration because it sets a precedent for breaking the law. We are a nation of laws and not of men. Our whole system of self-government is contingent upon the underpinnings of the rule of law. We should protect those immigrants who come to this country legally and follow the letter and spirit of the law. When people from other countries break our laws with hubris and impunity and are not punished then the rule of law is abrogated.
Rewarding law-breakers and giving taxpayer funds to those who break the law is immoral and unethical at its very core. Immigration has been vital to the success of our great nation. To ensure that it continues, immigration must be conducted in an orderly, controlled, and legal fashion to ensure that the rule of law is upheld equally to all citizens and that the security of our country is in no way threatened by undocumented aliens coming into our country. In order to help secure the American Dream for all new American citizens we must ensure that they assimilate to our country by learning our language and history with special emphasis on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Moreover, the federal government has a constitutional responsibility to â??protect and defend the bordersâ?ť of our country from foreign attack. Anybody not legally entering our country is, in essence, breaking federal law and should be considered an enemy of the United States of America.
It is also patently unfair to penalize immigrants who wait in line for years at a time to enter our nation legally to live a better life or be with family while we silently condone and pardon other illegal aliens who have â??cut the line.â?ť We are in essence rewarding law-breakers while penalizing those who abide by the letter of the law. While we should take pride in our rich ethnic and cultural diversity that is America, we must ensure that our immigration policies are based on the rule of law and not politically correct whim and caprice.

“should be” deported? true, but it will never happen.
We need to do the following:
1. Erect a fence and stem the tide of new illegals.
2. Expand legitimate, legal immigration via a guest worker program to something approaching the number of illegals that annually attempt to infiltrate our country.
3. Deal harshly (deportation) with illegals that are here that are caught breaking our laws.
The whole issue is a net loser for Republicans and Conservatives. We need to resopve it and change the subject before we lose our a** on it in November.
