Pundit Review Radio: Michael Yon’s grim assessment of Iraq and Afghanistan

By Kevin

The one and only Michael Yon joined us last evening to talk about the deterioting situation in Iraq, especially in Baghdad. He also touched on Afghanistan. Michael has been on our show about a dozen times to talk about Iraq. What makes his work so great, so valuable, is that he is agenda free. He gives you the good, the bad and the ugly. Right now, it’s looking pretty ugly.

    Tough Times…

Mike Yon is pessimisstic on Iraq and Afghanistan. Doesn’t mean you have to be pesimisstic too, but since Mike Yon is one of the few people out there who can offer a grim assessment on the Long War without getting……

I’m fatigued all right, not so much over the war itself but instead over the nature of the ‘anti-war’ opposition. Criticism? Sure, bring it on; the more the better. But what I can’t stand are people of the West who are forming what amounts to alliances with people who would hack their heads off.

This is in reference to the Michael Yon interview. He took the courage to start to expand our view of this war in Iraq. I think he did a real service to this Nation by speaking out. He is not speaking to our leaders, but to the everyday citizens, even “Grumpy” old fools like me. As a Nation, we need to understand, this Global War on Terror will not be over in a maximum of 15 or 20 years. We will be fortunate if it is over 30 THOUSAND YEARS! Just take a look at Iraq, this was the original “Garden of Eden” the land between the River Tigris and the River Euphrates. These peoples have been fighting since the beginning of time. We need to take a look at the cultures of these peoples like the “Bedouin or Desert Code”. There are commonalities and differences between the Arab People and the Persian People, we need to understand them. Then as this “GWOT” continues we will see the centers of attention go elsewhere in Asia, and then closer to home from South America. Where did all of the WWII Nazis go? I hope I get the spelling correct on the last name. As George Santanya put it, “A man who does not learn from history is condemned to repeat it.” I AM NO EXPERT! There is a great deal to consider. Thank you, “Grumpy”

So, ‘Grumpy’ - what you are saying is that ‘these people’ ( as you refer to them ) are somehow culturally ( or is it racialy? ) incapable of learning or changing so as to live peacefully with the rest of the world?

One hunded years ago ‘Western Civilization’ was chopping of heads and executing gay people and treating women as animals - but WE GOT BETTER! (Not perfect - but better! ) as some applied reason over religion and prejudice.

We could do this - but according to you ‘they’ can’t? Not in ‘thirty thousand years’ even? Must be because ‘those people’ just are not… what?…???

    You tell me.
