Shocking News: A Massachusetts politician does something good

By Kevin

It’s not often that we stop to praise a Massachusetts politician. This state is a disgrace, a corruption filled incestuous hackarama where the outrages pile up so fast and so furious that the citizens canâ??t keep up. Finally, some good news,

Boston Herald
Heroâ??s welcome on the job - Mayor wants amputee for BFD

Tuesday, August 8, 2006

Mayor Thomas M. Menino will have one message for Iraq war hero Brian Fountaine when he returns to Dorchester this month: Welcome to the Boston Fire Department.

Menino said itâ??s the â??least the city could do,â?ť is help Fountaine, a 24-year-old soldier who lost his legs in a blast while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.

The Herald reported yesterday that, despite the life-changing injury, the Dorchester native never gave up his dream of becoming the third generation in a long line of men who devoted themselves to the Boston Fire Department. The mayor says thatâ??s a dream that will be made reality.

â??Brian is an American hero,â?ť Menino told the Herald yesterday. â??I would hope that as a city we could at least help him reach his goals. We need to step up and help him realize his dream and get him some sort of job with the Boston Fire Department.â?ť

The guy has no legs…how can he climb a ladder, deal with a hose of gushing water…

what do we do give him a desk job?
That is the ultimate hack job.

he gets money for being disabled
    stop with the special treatment

    good show, by the way

You have to be joking. He got disabled serving his country and protecting us. Special treatment? So is he good enough to die protecting you, just not good enough to give a job after. You have to be kidding.

And I assume you don’t know much about prosthetic limbs and what they can do.

Sometimes I really wonder why anyone serves in the military when this is the respect they get.

Someone else more eloquent that I am please help me here.

    Bill,

Not everyone who works for the FD is running into burning buildings. There are plenty of admin positions, or other roles this guy could play. You are one cold hearted bastard.

    Kevin

    Here is my point…
If he passes the civil service test and mets physical requirments, then fine

but Menino plans on giving him a job, before he even takes the test.

So not only do my tax dollars pay for his 100% disability from the government, but now I have to pay for him to live his dream job?

Sure, he can work in an admin position, just meet all requirements.

just because you went to war, doesn’t give you the green light when you get home,
he joined the military, I didn’t force or ask him to go, he fought for freedom by choice, and it is my freedom of choice that says when you get home, get back in line, plus he alread has special treatment with his veteran status.

    Bill,

I’m not saying you can’t have your opinion, your ‘freedom of choice’, you are entitled to be as cold and heartless as you want.

How am I being heartless? Becuase I think the best person for the job should get the job and I am not in favor of special treatment?

I know this guy who lost both his arms in Iraq, I think we should make him a police officer….

Sometime patriotism gets in the way of common sense, i guess

    Dear Kevin,
Thank you. That is simply beautiful. That is what we are all supposed to do. It is a tragedy that there are idiots who do not see it this way. HOOAH!

    Dear Bill,
I think I understand where you are coming from. Would I be correct in thinking all you really want is to make sure your tax dollars are spent on active duty personnel, and everyone gets the same opportunity?

So you do not agree with affirmative action, abortion on demand, the poor, welfare, government school funding, libraries, social security, arts, sciences, and other programs the government spends money on?

After all, they are not included in the Constitution. However the defense of our nation is. It is about the only thing these crackerpots get right, and they cannot even do that right!

BTW, many, many Soldiers never ask for disability. Many injured, some without a leg, have gone back out to fight for this great country.

I do believe the Mayor was only trying to show support and gratitude to a young man whom has given so much for a country he loves. Maybe he didn’t go to war for YOU. Maybe he went because he felt it was his calling?

Either way, I, for one, am proud of him. God bless him, and God bless you. God bless America, Gregg, Kevin, and all Military families and all American families.

And the government cannot force me not to say, “God bless you.” It is not in the Constitution. ;)

Special treatment as a veteran? And what wonderful treatments would those be? Post combat stress. Insulting pay scale and pension?

I am sorry, but I have a very hard time not seeing your comments as extremely self-centered and insulting to pretty much every veteran. Especially the “get back in line” comment that reads like you think that military men/women are just coming back from an extended camping weekend.

Yes, disabled veterans can’t fill some jobs. But they deserve whatever help we can give them to get their lives back together.

    Bill,

Are you able to stand? I mean not having a spine and all. The guy gets hurt fighting in his nation’s military, so that you can go about your day job, he comes back, and you don’t give a damn what happens to him? He isn’t asking for a sob story. He is a double amputee, from a war, he comes home, and what does he want? A job he can fill. If you honestly think that running into buildings is the only job for the Fire Department, you are sadly mistaken. Who should get the job instead? Someone who is physically fit, and was protesting 10 minutes ago, the same war he lost both of his legs in and still supports? So, basically your philosophy is, use him then kick him to the curb…

You know what I don’t like using my tax dollars for? People whose fathers are on welfare, they are on welfare and their children are on welfare. Not because they can’t find a job, but because they don’t want to. You know what else I can’t stand? Illegal aliens coming into this country, and costing me billions a year, then sending the money back to their families in Mexico. This veteran went to war, lost both of his legs fighting, had a dream to be in the Fire Department, and the mayor said “hey, lets give him a shot”. And you don’t like that.

By the way, he served his time fighting for his country, and wants to work for his nation again, even after losing both of his legs. Have you, Bill?
