Nancy schools GOP on fiscal responsibility

By Kevin

Topic: Doing away with anonymous earmarks which enable legislators to pad bills with pork without having to be accountable for it.

Question: Why didn’t a GOP controlled Congress think of this?

Answer: They did. They talked about it endlessly. In the end, they did nothing.

Headline: Democrats: Identify pork sponsors

Irony
: The party of limited government has handed a core issue, fiscal responsibility, to the Democrats.

Agony
: The fact that a far left liberal like Nancy Pelosi is doing what the GOP Congress should have done years ago.

Bottom Line: A good idea is a good idea, even if it comes from Nancy Pelosi.

Democrats: Identify pork sponsors

WASHINGTON â?? Democrats aim to open the next Congress in January with a new rule that identifies lawmakers who use legislative “earmarks” to help special interests â?? a change Republicans promised but didn’t implement.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said her first agenda item after being elected House speaker will be a vote to require sponsors of earmarks to be identified. Currently, lawmakers can remain anonymous in sponsoring an earmark, which is language in a bill that directs funds or tax benefits to a business, project or institution.

“There has to be transparency,” the California congresswoman told USA TODAY last week. “I’d just as soon do away with all (earmarks), but that probably isn’t realistic.”

And yes, I know the Democrat leadership is up to their ears with earmarks themselves, but this is something that needs to be done, and should have been done a long time ago. I don’t really care who does it, just do it.

About time. Although I was really hoping one of my senators was going to railroad a billion dollar bridge across the creek in my backyard.

Kevin, good job calling out a positive thing, even if it was from the democrats. I can’t imagine it will stop the silliness, but at least the informed among us can make better decisions as to who to call out as crooks.

And let’s see if anyone liberal haters can find fault with this one.

A lot of Republicans were against Pence’s bill, too. That is why we need new leadership. BTW, we already passed something watered down about this. So Blunt, the big spender, is claiming. Jerk.

I am trying to nominate you, but I need to know what your .xml, .php, (?) is. Get in touch so I can finish the nomination. ;)

Yeah the Murtha thing is a little bit of tone-deaf politics, especially if they want to back off the Abramoff et al corruption taint. Even the whiff of Abscam should keep Murtha out of the whip seat (”should”).
It also cuts against the previously stated goal of basing chairmanships (I know this isn’t a chairmanship, but it is a leadership position) on seniority only– another bad idea.

    President Sonny Perdue?

Clinton, Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Obama, Frist, Gingrich, Gore, Kerry, Rice, Edwards, Pataki, Bidenâ?¦ Like it or not, the 2008 presidential race is officially underway. Whatâ??s missing is a clear front-runner for the Republican nomination.

Georgia governor Sonny Perdue is, perhaps, the GOPâ??s best hope of maintaining control of the White House.

Republicans are Mad about Spending and Immigration

Perdue balanced the budget in Georgia, which insulates him from the criticisms that face any candidate that comes from our irresponsible, deficit-swelling congress.

Perdue passed the toughest immigration legislation in the country, while Washington did nothing.

Independents are Mad about the Iraq and Trade

Since Perdue wasnâ??t in Washington during the vote to authorize the Iraq war, he can approach it with an open mind and no political baggage.

Regarding trade reform, Perdue can reach out to natural allies like Gingrey, Norwood, Deal, and Westmorland, all of whom have been outspoken about cracking down on Chinese trade abuses (especially regarding child and slave labor).

Perdue was the GOPâ??s Only Bright Light in the Mid-Term Election

With Perdue at the top of the ticket, Georgia Republicans picked up both the Lt. Governor and Sectary of State offices and expanded the Republican majority in the statehouse. Republicans in the rest of the country took a â??thumpin.â?ť

And thereâ??s plenty for the media to like too. Perdue is a veteran, a veterinarian, father of four, foster parent of eight, and was a walk-on quarterback at the University of Georgia. He also has a small role in the upcoming Matthew McConaughey football movie â??We Are Marshallâ?ť.

I challenge anyone looking at the current list of GOP hopefuls to name a stronger candidate than Governor Sonny Perdue.

Best hope for either party is a Governor, perhaps one most haven’t heard of like Perdue. That’s not a new concept (Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter), but let’s remember once again to leave the Senators to do their Senatoring and find some new faces for ‘08. (OK I know I am responding to an off-topic comment).
