Rule #1 in PR: know who you are pitching

By Kevin

Dr. Helen has laments getting a pitch from a PR person who obviously didn’t do their homework,

Dear Dr. Helen,

As a fan and avid reader, congratulations all around for the big victory this last election, definitely a team effort.

And to spread the holiday cheer this season, I’d like to send you, on behalf of our publisher (a staunch Dem), comp. copies of our official 2007 George Bush Out of Office Countdown Calendar.

Dr. Helen replied, “If you actually read my blog and were an ‘avid fan’ you would know that I would never want such a calendar.” As readers of my blog know, I just love “staunch” Democrats–yes, this blog just sings their praises all day. Right.”

Just yesterday I received a pitch for an interview with someone “famed for her time on â??The Bachelorâ?ť and â??The Bachelorette,â?ť and is set to become the single girlâ??s biggest champion with her new book ….”

Well, have we made the big time or what! My first reaction was to quickly hit delete. But then I realized that if some PR person could actually send this pitch to us, the rest would be worth reading. I was NOT disappointed,

With input from experts and women across America, (her) book about the upsides of being single, the importance of being happy alone before getting in a relationship, and the joy that comes with waiting for Mr. Right.

And if I wasn’t swooning by now, here’s the kicker,

Just in time for Valentineâ??s Day: (she) will start giving interviews on 1/23â?¦ just in time for Valentineâ??s Day.

Now I’m thinking that this bad of a pitch should get the response it deserves,

Why yes, we would LOVE to have The Bachelorette, on Pundit Review Radio.

Maybe we could quiz her on geopolitical strategery or the Iraq Study Group? Surely, our listeners want to hear what she has to say about how best to deal with the insurgency in Iraq!

As Dr. Helen said,

Wouldn’t it be nice if the clueless PR places that send out PR spam would at least take the time to read or at least look at the blogs they send this crap to? Honestly, are PR people that damn lazy?

That’s the PR game. Some guys, and I won’t say who, are Michael Jordon, and some guys are Al Gore.

Seriously, I want to hear what the Bachelorette has to say about Iraq. I think you are missing an opportunity hear. How many other shows interview bimbos on important issues? Think of the ratings
