Detroit mayor faces arraignment on assault charges
DETROIT – An arraignment has been set for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on assault charges after police say he confronted detectives trying to deliver a subpoena to the mayor’s friend.
Kilpatrick’s arraignment has been scheduled for Friday afternoon in Detroit’s 36th District Court. The hearing was scheduled shortly after Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox announced he’s filing two counts of assaulting or obstructing a police officer in the furtherance of their duties.
Each felony count brings up to 2 years in prison or a fine of $2,000.
The mayor already faces perjury, official misconduct and obstruction of justice charges stemming from his testimony in a civil trial last year.
In case you were wondering, no, the AP story never did identify him being a Democrat.
