The samrtest man in America and perhaps the world Shelby Steele who is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford and author of “White Guilt,” has this amazing article entitled “Life and Death” in today’s Wall st. Journal

If this war makes anything clear, it is that Israel can do nothing to appease the Muslim animus against her. And now much of the West is in a similar position, living in a state of ever-heightening security against the constant threat of violence from Islamic extremists. So here, from the Muslim world, comes an unappeasable hatred that seems to exist for its own sake, a hatred with very little actual reference to those it claims to hate. Even the fighting of Islamic terrorist groups is oddly self-referential, fighting not for territory or treasure but for the fighting itself. Standing today in the rubble of Lebanon, having not taken a single inch of Israeli territory, Hezbollah claims a galvanizing victory.

On anti-Semitism:

All this follows the familiar pattern of a very old vice: anti-Semitism. The anti-Semite is always drawn to the hatred of Jews by his own unacknowledged inadequacy. As Sartre says in his great essay on the subject, the anti-Semite “is a man who is afraid. Not of Jews of course, but of himself.” By hating Jews, he asserts that his own group represents the kind of human being that God truly wants. His group is God’s archetype, the only authentic humanity, already complete and superior. No striving or self-reflection is necessary. If Jews are superior in some ways, it is only out of their alienated striving, their exile from God’s grace. For the anti-Semite, hating and fighting Jews is both self-affirmation and a way of doing God’s work.

So the anti-Semite comes to a chilling place: He easily joins himself to evil in order to serve God. Fighting and even killing Jews brings the world closer to God’s intended human hierarchy. For Nazis, the “final solution” was an act of self-realization and a fulfillment of God’s will. At the center of today’s militant Islamic identity there is a passion to annihilate rather than contain Israel. And today this identity applies the anti-Semitic model of hatred to a vastly larger group — the infidel. If the infidel is not yet the object of that pristine hatred reserved for Jews, he is not far behind. Bombings in London, Madrid and Mumbai; riots in Paris; murders in Amsterdam; and of course 9/11 — all these follow the formula of anti-Semitism: murder of a hated enemy as self-realization and service to God.

Well. I can’t say for sure the teacher in this story is a liberal, but I’ll take a guess that this guy probably didn’t vote for Dubya. Just a guess.

A Stuart Middle School teacher has been removed from the classroom after he burned two American flags in class during a lesson on freedom of speech, Jefferson County Public Schools officials said.

Dan Holden, who teaches seventh-grade social studies, burned small flags in two different classes Friday and asked students to write an opinion paper about it, district spokeswoman Lauren Roberts said.

Whether it is “legal” or not, one has to really wonder if there may have been a more appropriate way to instruct a bunch of 10 and 11 year olds on the 1st Amendment. Perhaps the “teacher” Dan Holden could have reviewed what Fisher Ames (of Massachusetts) who provided the wording of the First Amendment which was passed by the House of Representatives. If anyone should be considered an “authority” regarding the 1st Amendment it should be Fisher Ames. He never used the term “separation of church and state” in any of his writings or public speeches. He did advocate that the Bible should be the primary textbook in America’s classrooms:

” Whyâ?¦should not the Bible regain the place it once held as a school book? Its morals are pure, its examples captivating and noble. The reverence for the sacred book that is thus early impressed in infancy, never takes firm hold of the mind.”

The ACLU supports Mr. Holden’s “right” to burn American flags to “teach” his students about the 1st Amendment because it is “free speech.” Can you imagine how fast they would be filing a law suit against him if, instead of buring flags, Mr Holden had shared the very words the actual author of the 1st Amendment used above.

Is it any wonder that our govt run school system has been such an abysmal failure since God was removed from the classroom in 1961 as a result of the landmark ruling in Engel v Vitale? Is it any wonder that parents can’t yank their kids out of the public schools fast enough?

Last night we filled in for our good friend, weeknight host Todd Feinberg, and had the distinct honor of speaking with one of America’s leading political analysts, Mr. Michael Barone.

We discussed his new book, The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again

We also asked him about the impact of blogs. He had some really insightful and funny things to say. He talked about the differences between the left and right blogosphere, how he feels like he doesn’t miss much if he goes a day without reading the Washington Post, but a day without Instapundit, well, he could really be missing out on something important. And the icing on the cake, he also took some shots at Maureen Dowd!

Like all of our interviews, this is available for download at iTunes.

Congratulations to Gregg, his book Conservative Comebacks to Liberals Lies continues to generate positive press.

Dr. Thomas Sowell got the ball rolling with an amazingly positive review earlier this summer, and now Gregg is being featured over at Human Events online. They just posted a Q&A with Gregg, asking a lot of good questions about the book, why he wrote it and what he hopes to accomplish.

“Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies” is organized as an A-to-Z reference book written for conservatives, right-leaning independents and disaffected Democrats. At 383 pages, it offers clear and concise conservative responses and comebacks to almost any issue.

How did your job as co-host of Pundit Review Radio help you write this book?

It confirms time and time again why I needed to write this book. I constantly hear ludicrous liberal claims that have no basis in truth. Many of these flawed claims continue to circulate even though they have been proven false for years. I wanted to clear up the misinformation that is flooding not only my radio show and PunditReview.com but also the media in general. When callers to my show are confronted with even the first layer of counter argument, I have found that often liberals are out of facts and resort to name-calling.

Why do you feel that conservatives need help defending their values?
As Margaret Thatcher once said, â??First win the argument, then the election.â? Republicans who call themselves conservative have become too comfortable as the incumbent majority. As a movement, conservatism has in many ways lost its way. We must get back to basics by effectively articulating conservative ideas and standing on principles instead of adopting Democratic ideas such as the minimum wage, entitlement spending, protectionist tariffs, and amnesty for illegals.

Who do you think would benefit most from reading this book?
I would like to think that everyone will benefit from this book. But I believe grassroots conservatives will benefit the most. There is a critical mass of right-leaning independents who may be socially liberal but fiscally conservative who want to educate themselves. They may not have the time to read 50 different books on 50 individual issues, so in “Conservative Comebacks” I have provided a way for busy people to stay informed on the major issues facing the voters today.

It was our pleasure to once again welcome Soldiers Angels founder Patti Patton Bader to Pundit Review Radio.

We were also joined by Boston area businessman Michael Pann of Pann Home Services. Michael heard about Soldiers Angels by listening to Pundit Review and has since adopted an entire platoon of soldiers, as well as taken on several other projects with this great organization.

Before we were even off the air last night we received an email from Patty with the subject line “HERE THEY COME–THANK YOU”. Our great listeners had immediately responded and contacted Soldiers Angels to help! You guys and gals are awesome!

Retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, author of the great new book Never Quit The Fight, has just returned from the Israel-Lebanon border and what he told us last night is not good news for the Israelis. Ralph described the IDF being plagued by poor leadership, corruption and indecision. Ralph said flatly that this is a huge victory for the Hezbollah.

We took some calls from the great listeners at WRKO, including Jay Tea from Wizbang, who got the ball rolling with a couple of very good questions. Thanks for listening Jay Tea!
