Yes, I guess you could say I have some issues with Manny.

UPDATE: The mighty Hub Blog has issued a Manny Derangement Syndrome Alert and noted that I’ve relapsed. Can’t argue with that.

Inspired: outstanding or brilliant in a way or to a degree suggestive of divine inspiration

Brent Mydland takes us to church- Blow Away from WooklifeSANITY on Vimeo.

Unfortunately, it was not divine inspiration, but the oldest kind of inspiration for musicians.

More on addiction, and Brent Mydland, here.

Brad

Last night we met Brad Marston, GOP candidate for state representative in the 8th Suffolk district, running against Rep. Marty Walz.

We first noticed Brad because of his use of social media as a cornerstone of his campaign, so we talked about that, what he’s learned and some of the dangers of social media. We then turned to the issues he cares about most, jobs and the economy.

We need balance on Beacon Hill. We need guys like Brad Marston up there fighting for us, and our wallets.

Bruce McQuain from Blackfive joined us once again for Someone You Should Know, our weekly tribute to the troops. Bruce spent 28 years in the U.S. Army and he is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He brings a perspective and understanding to these stories that we could never match.

This week Bruce told us about a story from 66 years ago to the day, June 6, 1944, D-Day,

cole, robert

Lt. Col. Cole was personally leading his battalion in forcing the last 4 bridges on the road to Carentan when his entire unit was suddenly pinned to the ground by intense and withering enemy rifle, machinegun, mortar, and artillery fire placed upon them from well-prepared and heavily fortified positions within 150 yards of the foremost elements. After the devastating and unceasing enemy fire had for over 1 hour prevented any move and inflicted numerous casualties, Lt. Col. Cole, observing this almost hopeless situation, courageously issued orders to assault the enemy positions with fixed bayonets. With utter disregard for his own safety and completely ignoring the enemy fire, he rose to his feet in front of his battalion and with drawn pistol shouted to his men to follow him in the assault. Catching up a fallen man's rifle and bayonet, he charged on and led the remnants of his battalion across the bullet-swept open ground and into the enemy position. His heroic and valiant action in so inspiring his men resulted in the complete establishment of our bridgehead across the Douve River. The cool fearlessness, personal bravery, and outstanding leadership displayed by Lt. Col. Cole reflect great credit upon himself and are worthy of the highest praise in the military service.

Whenever Israel takes action to defend itself, it’s like ringing a bell on a Pavlovian reaction from far too many on the left. Any Israeli defense, no matter how justified or overdue, is seen by the anti-Semitic left as an overreaction, escalation, provocation, or even, a war crime. Happens every time. It is entirely predictable and pathetic that so many liberals fall for the staged manipulation of the allegedly “humanitarian” flotilla. This was a clearly orchestrated propaganda mission and many on the left lapped it up without an ounce of critical thinking. The phrase “useful idiots” comes to mind. Are they useful, or willful, I don’t know.

Question: how many of you who volunteer at a soup kitchen or Big Brother/Big Sister make a martyrdom video before heading over to do your humanitarian work? Well, clearly, you don’t have what it takes to be part of the Gaza flotilla.

Last night I welcomed back Martin Solomon to the WRKO studios. Martin runs a terrific Boston-based blog called Solomonia, which covers anti-Semitism both locally and around the world.

TheStrongHorse

Joining Martin and I was Lee Smith, author of The Strong Horse: Power, Politics, and the Clash of Arab Civilizations. After the weak and tepid reaction from the Obama administration, Iran announced that it may get into the Flotilla escort business. A direct consequence of a Weak Pony instead of a Strong Horse in the White House.

This week Bruce told us about Staff Sergeant Christian Bryant. From his Silver Star citation,

CBryant

After roughly 10 hours of fighting, one of the machine gunners identified his position as the sun was going down and muzzle flashes became more distinguishable. Staff Sergeant Bryant immediately assisted the Javelin gunner in retrieving, loading and then engaging and destroying the enemy sniper, all the while under intense enemy fire. Throughout the fight Staff Sergeant Bryant not only commanded his squad but he also performed duties well above his level of responsibility. Staff Sergeant Bryant’s actions exemplify what it means to be a true leader and a combat Soldier. His valorous actions under intense enemy fire showcased his personal courage and dedication to duty and to his men. Staff Sergeant Bryant’s actions were directly responsible for killing a key ACM Sub commander Habib Jan, whom Coalition Forces had been targeting for three years and who had been responsible for multiple Coalition Force casualties. His actions also led to the destruction of Habib Jan’s ACM cell killing over 20 ACM fighters.
