When Democrats use that tactic, it’s called “Reconciliation“. Sounds like something you do in church.

When Republicans do it, it’s called The Nuclear Option!

I’ve enjoyed his Washington DC reporting and commentary for a long time and last night finally had the opportunity to welcome Matt Lewis of Politics Daily to Pundit Review Radio.

Matt attended CPAC and I wanted to get his impressions of the event, from the speakers to the topics to the energy and optimism of the attendees. We took calls, including one from Boston Maggie about Admiral Lippold, who might be running against Harry Reid in NV. Go figure, a Navy question from Maggie!

One of the things Matt wrote about and we discussed was the sense that the GOP has entered a new era. Nothing exhibited that more than this clip, of homophobe fool Ryan Sorba getting a reception he so richly deserved,

TheStrongHorse

I love books that stand conventional wisdom on its head and ask the reader to think about old problems in new ways. That, in a nutshell, is what Lee Smith has done with The Strong Horse: Power, Politics, and the Clash of Arab Civilizations.

I especially liked the book description from Max Boot,

The Strong Horse is hard to describe and even harder to put down. Lee Smith has concocted an addictive and original brew of reportage, memoir, and political analysis that casts the Middle East and its relations with the “Great Satan”; in a fresh and fascinating light. Writing about his meetings with everyone from Omar Sharif to Natan Sharansky, he delivers one shrewd insight after another. Anyone seeking to understand the world’s most volatile region should read this timely and entertaining book.

It was a pleasure to welcome Lee to the show, I only wish we had more time to discuss this because clearly, we were only able to scratch the surface. Special thanks to Martin Solomon of Solomonia who recommended the book to me.

Bruce McQuain from Blackfive joined us once again for Someone You Should Know, our weekly tribute to the troops. Bruce spent 28 years in the U.S. Army and he is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He brings a perspective and understanding to these stories that we could never match.

This week Bruce told us about Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment,

a

From Stars and Stripes,

In May 2007, Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment patrolled Adhamiyah, a Sunni enclave in northeast Baghdad that was arguably the most dangerous neighborhood in Iraq. No battalion has seen more soldiers fall in a single deployment since Vietnam, and Charlie, with 13 lost, was the hardest-hit company in the battalion.

When Charlie was pulled from Adhamiyah a few months later, it was replaced with an entire battalion augmented by a company and specialty platoons.

The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Bruce does an incredible job with the series every week. The Pundit Review Radio Podcast RSS feed can be found here.

February 16, 1923: Archaeologist opens tomb of King Tut

On this day in 1923, in Thebes, Egypt, English archaeologist Howard Carter enters the sealed burial chamber of the ancient Egyptian ruler King Tutankhamen…The men began exploring the four rooms of the tomb, and on February 16, 1923, under the watchful eyes of a number of important officials, Carter opened the door to the last chamber.

Inside lay a sarcophagus with three coffins nested inside one another. The last coffin, made of solid gold, contained the mummified body of King Tut. Among the riches found in the tomb–golden shrines, jewelry, statues, a chariot, weapons, clothing–the perfectly preserved mummy was the most valuable, as it was the first one ever to be discovered. Despite rumors that a curse would befall anyone who disturbed the tomb, its treasures were carefully catalogued, removed and included in a famous traveling exhibition called the “Treasures of Tutankhamen.” The exhibition’s permanent home is the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

February 16, 2010: Study Examines Family Lineage of King Tut, His Possible Cause of Death

Using several scientific methods, including analyzing DNA from royal mummies, research findings suggest that malaria and bone abnormalities appear to have contributed to the death of Egyptian pharaoh King Tutankhamun, with other results appearing to identify members of the royal family, including King Tut’s father and mother, according to a study in the JAMA.

They may not be King Tut, but here are some pics of the Egyptian exhibit from my recent trip to The Metropolitan Museum in New York City,
