The mystery senator who was holding up a porkbusting bill has been identified. This is a great moment for the blogosphere. Here’s the inside the beltway pub Hotline, via Instapundit,

(Ted) Stevens’ admission “offered a glimpse into the increasing role that online pundits play in U.S. policymaking.” It came a day after Senate Maj. Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) “posted a Web entry asking colleagues to cooperate with bloggers who were trying to identify who was using the legislative maneuver to stall a vote.”

Yes, that is the same Ted Stevens that wanted to build a $233 million bridge to nowhere. So who besides Republican Sen. Ted Stevens have entered the Porkbusters Hall of Shame? Click here to find out.

Congratulations to all the bloggers who organized this effort and helped identify the mystery senators.

UPDATE: Chicago Tribune: Busted By Bloggers

When the porkbusters learned about the so-called “secret hold,” they issued a call for bloggers to contact their own senators and demand to know: Are you the anonymous blocker? Readers at TPMmuckraker.com and GOPprogress.com joined in, and within days they had denials from 97 senators.

That’s when Stevens decided to `fess up. The bloggers still weren’t satisfied.

By Thursday, Byrd was the only senator who continued to duck the question. Noting that Byrd’s “penchant for pork would probably win him the Pork Crown if he weren’t saddled with minority status,” TPMmuckraker pressed for an answer. By midafternoon, Byrd had admitted he placed a hold on the bill–and said he has now released it.

When they were caught, Stevens and Byrd offered lots of blather about why they were preventing taxpayers from finding out how their money is spent….

…It’s a good day for taxpayers and the bloggers who got to the truth. And a bad day for secrecy in the U.S. Senate.

Paul Sperry of Frontpagemagazine has this story of a “gentle” 3rd grade teacher from the D.C. suburbs who was just sentenced for his involvement in terrorist activities. Once again the all too familiar story of a Muslim male aiding and abetting those who seek to destroy the United States of America and impose Sharia law. I say deport him adn everybody like him who preach Jihad and seek to impose Sharia law on our country immediately.

The recent terror case of a “gentle” third-grade teacher from the D.C. suburbs shows the danger is at once closer and harder to ID than you think. The enemy is hiding not in the shadows, but in plain sight, and may even wear a smile.

Hundreds of Muslims last week flocked to a federal courtroom to show their support for the affable and soft-spoken Ali Asad Chandia of Maryland as he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for supporting terrorists. Friends say anti-Muslim prosecutors railroaded a “law-abiding” and “peaceful” brother.

“He is a dedicated teacher,” said one. “A great family man,” said another.

Another told the judge Chandia’s so gentle he wouldn’t hurt a tree branch in his yard. “I said to Ali that I may need to cut the branch (but) he asked that I not hurt the tree,” the friend, a landscaper, said in a letter. “I was touched by Ali’s insistence that the tree not be harmed in any way.”

But prosecutors tell a different story.

Conclusion of story here

Here is the latest example of the blogosphere bringing you tomorrow’s news today. The Boston Globe’s Alex Beam should listen to us on Pundit Review Radio. If he did, he could have written this column weeks ago,

MIT’s inconvenient scientist

I decided to check out Lindzen for myself. He wasn’t hard to find on the 16th floor of MIT’s I.M. Pei-designed Building 54, and he answered as many questions as I had time to ask. He’s no big fan of Gore’s, having suffered through what he calls a “Star Chamber” Congressional inquisition by the then senator . He said he accepted $10,000 in expenses and expert witness fees from fossil- fuel types in the 1990s, and has taken none of their money since.

He’s smart. He’s an effective debater. No wonder the Steve Schneiders and Al Gores of the world don’t want you to hear from him. It’s easier to call someone a shill and accuse him of corruption than to debate him on the merits.

If you watch only one online video this year, make sure you watch this one.

If only president Bush could speak this clearly and directly to Americans and the world.

Have you been following the case of the mystery senator? It’s the best ‘who done it’ in blogosphere history. Why? Finally an issue that brings the left and right blogosphere together.

Speaking of ‘who done it’, are you, like me, bored to tears over the Plamegate story? Dean Esmay is.

John Kerry is ready for his tinfoil hat. The guy wants to be president so bad he’s losing his marbles.

Brit Hume, America’s newsman.

More Fauxtography, this time involving Katie Couric and CBS.

This is cool. The You Tube ‘guitar’ video creator has been exposed. As Jay Fitz of Hub Blog said, great video and a great story.

Last night on Pundit Review Radio we put the call out to our listeners in Boston to step up and help a young women, an Iraq war veteran, who is stranded in our city and needs our help.

Her name is Selena Lassien, she is a native of tiny Vinton, LA. A member of the LA National Guard, she spent a year in Baghdad as an intelligence analyst. Matt at Blackfive has more details on her story.

She came to Boston on vacation at 20 weeks pregnant and had some complications. After being taken to the hospital she was put on bedrest and delivered her daughter at 24-weeks. The baby has endured several surgeries, including one this morning.

Selena has been staying with the baby at Children’s Hospital for ten weeks sleeping on a cot. Thanks to the great people at Soldiers Angels, she finally was able to get into a hotel room. We are trying to raise funds to put her up in a short term apartment rental, which as you all know, is very expensive in Boston.

You can help by sending money to Soldiers Angels through PayPal. The Soldiers Angels email addressto send donations to is donations@soldiersangels.org

Or through snail mail at the following address,

Soldiers Angels
c/o Selena Lassien
1150 N. Loop 1604 W., Suite 108-493
San Antonio, TX 78248

Thank you for supporting Selena.

Matt from Blackfive joined us for an extended session last evening so we could discuss some of the great coverage on his milblog this past week. We talked about some new developments in the Haditha massacre story which call into question Jack Murtha’s initial statements. Matt also helped us understand the real story of the call up of Marines this past week, and showed us how it was spun by the media.

We also got a preview of his awesome new book The Blog of War: Front-Line Dispatches from Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan

Next Sunday, after Someone You Should Know, we will talk to Matt about this book in depth.
