BREAKING: Increase in global temps caused by scientists cooking the books

Carbon-Footprint-8-18-7

When is the bad news going to stop for the Gorebots and true believers of the Man Made Climate Change? After the Nopenhagen Climate Conference and the utterly devastating release of emails and source data from the University of East Anglia, it appears that the answer is, not soon enough.

While we have been focused on bringing hope and change to Massachusetts via our recent U.S. Senate election, quite a few bits of rather inconvenient information have crossed the newswires that you might have missed.

Remember all those wild claims about melting glaciers? Turns out that data was cooked too. The best part is who the chef was. The very UN panel, the very report in fact, that won them and Al Gore a Nobel Peace Prize.

president-al-gore

Do those come with expiration dates?

The Indian head of the UN climate change panel defended his position yesterday even as further errors were identified in the panel’s assessment of Himalayan glaciers…

…The IPCC’s 2007 report, which won it the Nobel Peace Prize, said that the probability of Himalayan glaciers “disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high”.

But it emerged last week that the forecast was based not on a consensus among climate change experts, but on a media interview with a single Indian glaciologist in 1999.

The IPCC admitted on Thursday that the prediction was “poorly substantiated” in the latest of a series of blows to the panel’s credibility.

NASA/GISS Accused Of Data Mainpulation In Support Of Man-Made Global Warming Agenda. Bruce McQuain at QandO explains,

After the scandal concerning the CRU at the University of East Anglia, this may be the sound of the second shoe dropping.

Data from the National Climate Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, North Carolina and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) at Columbia University in New York City, both associated with the US Government and the UN’s IPCC, have come under fire from two researchers. Programmer E. Michael Smith and Certified Consulting Meteorologis Joseph D’Aleo have combed through the data and the programming from which conclusions were made about man-made global warming and claim the data used was both cherry-picked and manipulated to produce findings that supported the hypothesis that man was responsible for climate change.

How ironic is it that Al Gore loses the closest election in recent history AND sees his precious and profitable Global Warming Climate Change boondoggle ruined at the very last minute. Coinsider all these cooked books the hanging chads of the scientific community. So close Al, you almost had your global government, your nanny state on steroids. Hey, look at the brightside, you took nearly a billion dollars off the table before people caught on to the scam. Al Gore, blows it again. How fitting.

Inconvenient News Update

INCONVENIENT: Backfire: Americans say global warming climate change “exaggerated

“Here’s what Gallup found: The number of Americans who say the media have exaggerated global warming jumped to a record 41 percent in 2009, up from 35 percent a year ago. The most marked increase came among political independents, whose ranks of doubters swelled from 33 percent to 44 percent. Republican doubters grew from 59 percent to 66 percent, while Democratic skeptics stayed at around 20 percent.”

Finally, a significant percentage of Americans realize that the End of Days rhetoric has jumped the shark.

INCONVENIENT: The Climate Change Climate Change: The number of skeptics is swelling everywhere

Joanne Simpson, the world’s first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak “frankly” of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming “the worst scientific scandal in history.” Norway’s Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the “new religion.” A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton’s Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists’ open letter.)

INCONVENIENT: The Revolt of the Scientists,

Bruce @QandO, “Apparently it is getting a little hot in the scientific community when it comes to AGW and skepticism. And it is the skeptics who are firing the broadsides.”

INCONVENIENT: Peer-reviewed study from Down Under points to nature as global warming source

Three Australian scientists have published a study in the Journal of Geophysical Research claiming that virtually none of the observed temperature increases in the Earth’s atmosphere in recent years can be attributed to man-made factors.

“The surge in global temperatures since 1977 can be attributed to a 1976 climate shift in the Pacific Ocean that made warming El Niño conditions more likely than they were over the previous 30 years and cooling La Niña conditions less likely” de Freitas said. “We have shown that internal global climate-system variability accounts for at least 80% of the observed global climate variation over the past half-century. It may even be more if the period of influence of major volcanoes can be more clearly identified and the corresponding data excluded from the analysis,” he added.

Somehow Gorebots believe that the science about something as dynamic as the environment is “settled”. Nothing left to learn.

INCONVENIENT: Obama’s EPA plans fewer toxic cleanups

WASHINGTON - For years, the Bush administration was criticized for not cleaning up enough of America’s most contaminated waste sites. The Obama administration plans to do even less.

Environmental groups and some Democratic lawmakers railed against President George W. Bush’s cleanup record. But this time, they’re shying away from speaking out against a popular president who’s considered an ally in the fight to clean up the environment.

How is he “an ally in the fight to clean up the environment” if he is doing less that that evil, environment hating bastard George W. Bush? Suckers.

INCONVENIENT: New York Times asks Is the Sun Missing Its Spots?

“We still don’t quite understand this beast. The theories we had for how the sunspot cycle works have major problems,” said David Hathaway, a solar physicist at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala

Wow. You mean with new technology and research, models and theories can be proven wrong, improved, changed or adapted. Maybe science is the process of discovery after all?

President Obama thinks he is George Burns

george burns god Pictures, Images and Photos

It’s not April Fools Day. The following story did not come from The Onion but the AP, so I’ll have to assume this isn’t a joke,

AP: Obama looks at climate engineering

The president’s new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth’s air.

John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

“It’s got to be looked at,” he said. “We don’t have the luxury of taking any approach off the table.”

…But Holdren noted that shooting particles into the air—making an artificial volcano as one Nobel laureate has suggested—could have grave side effects and would not completely solve all the problems from soaring greenhouse gas emissions. So such actions could not be taken lightly, he said.

Still, “we might get desperate enough to want to use it,” he added.

Another geoengineering option he mentioned was the use of so-called artificial trees to suck carbon dioxide—the chief human-caused greenhouse gas—out of the air and store it. At first that seemed prohibitively expensive, but a re-examination of the approach shows it might be less costly, he said.

We don’ have enough problems? Now Obama wants to play God and control the weather? Is he also President of the Sun?

Scientists in the Land of the Rising Sun have concluded that it is the sun itself that is the major cause of Global Warming, not man.

I know, it is shocking that the Sun may play a role in global temps. If that wacky possibility is true, then we may be in for the opposite of Global Warming,

Solar activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle. But so far in this cycle, the sun has been disturbingly quiet. The lack of increased activity could signal the beginning of what is known as a Maunder Minimum, an event which occurs every couple of centuries and can last as long as a century.

Such an event occurred in the 17th century. The observation of sunspots showed extraordinarily low levels of magnetism on the sun, with little or no 11-year cycle.

This solar hibernation corresponded with a period of bitter cold that began around 1650 and lasted, with intermittent spikes of warming, until 1715. Frigid winters and cold summers during that period led to massive crop failures, famine and death in Northern Europe.

So for, the science seems to back this up. The Sun might actually have something to do with it!

Does Obama really believe he can control the earth’s temperature? What’s he going to do about the lack of solar activity, give the Sun a hug? Ask what its grievances are and then apologize to it on our behalf?

God help us. On second thought…

Scientists blast AP’s science “fiction” writer for outright propaganda

Earlier this week, AP science “reporter” Seth Borenstein wrote what should be a career-ending propaganda piece masquerading as a straight news story.

Obama left with little time to curb global warming

WASHINGTON (AP) - When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, global warming was a slow-moving environmental problem that was easy to ignore. Now it is a ticking time bomb that President-elect Barack Obama can’t avoid.

Since Clinton’s inauguration, summer Arctic sea ice has lost the equivalent of Alaska, California and Texas. The 10 hottest years on record have occurred since Clinton’s second inauguration. Global warming is accelerating. Time is close to running out, and Obama knows it.

That is only the intro, it gets worse from there. My friend Bruce McQuain at QandO took exception and highlighted some of Borenstein’s propaganda reporting, including this gem, that global cooling is proof of global warming,

“Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend line. Experts say it’s thanks to a La Nina weather variation. While skeptics are already using it as evidence of some kind of cooling trend, it actually illustrates how fast the world is warming.”

Wha? Cool = warm? How does one take AP seriously?

Michael R. Fox, a retired nuclear scientist and chemistry professor from the University of Idaho makes a critical, under-appreciated point about how damaging it can be when activism replaces journalism, especially when it comes from the AP,

There’s very little that’s right about it. And it’s really harmful to the United States because people like this Borenstein working for AP have an enormous impact on everyone, because AP sells their news service to a thousand news outlets. One guy like him can be very destructive and alarming. Yeah it’s freedom of speech, but its dishonest.

Can I get an amen! A geology professor at the University of Oklahoma, David Deming, agrees that Borenstein’s piece is especially awful,

He says global warming is accelerating. Not only is it continuing, it’s accelerating, and whether it’s continuing that was completely beyond the evidence. The mean global temperature, at least as measured by satellite, is now the same as it was in the year 1980. In the last couple of years sea level has stopped rising. Hurricane and cyclone activity in the northern hemisphere is at a 24-year low and sea ice globally is also the same as it was in 1980….Reporters, as I understand reporters, are supposed to report facts. What he’s doing here is he’s writing a polemic and reporting it as fact, and that’s not right. It’s not reporting. It’s propaganda.

Another scientist, James O’Brien, an emeritus professor at Florida State University, a Global Warming supporter, goes on in the article to also slam the AP’s science fiction writer,

“Global climate change is occurring in many places in the world,” O’Brien said. “But everything that’s attributed to global warming, almost none of it is global warming.”

He took issue with the AP article’s assertion that melting Arctic ice will cause global sea levels to rise.

“When the Arctic Ocean ice melts, it never raises sea level because floating ice is floating ice, because it’s displacing water,” O’Brien said. “When the ice melts, sea level actually goes down.

“I call it a fourth grade science experiment. Take a glass, put some ice in it. Put water in it. Mark level where water is. Let it met. After the ice melts, the sea level didn’t go up in your glass of water. It’s called the Archimedes Principle.”

He called sea level changes a “major scare tactic used by the global warming people.”

It sure is. Here is my interview with Chris Horner, author of Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed.

Ed Morrisey at Hot Air has it exactly right,

Unfortunately, that’s been the history of the global-warming cult over the last decade. They accept no challenges, demonize those who question their science, scoff at contradictory data (such as the fact that temperatures have stopped rising), and insist on politicizing their science rather than work from facts. The AP has become the cult’s propaganda arm.

The Most Inconvenient Truth: 13 straight years of Global Cooling

If the same thing happened for 13 straight years, would you call it a trend? An emerging consensus? How about an incredibly inconvenient truth?

The data shows that not only is Global Warming not happening, but we are well into a cooling period that could last for quite some time. It is clear why the fanatics have re-branded Global Warming as Climate Change.

When the Warmest in History Isn’t
by Debra J. Saunders

When it comes to global warming, newspapers play up stories that reinforce the prevalent the-sky-is-falling belief that global warming is human-caused and catastrophic. But if a study or scientist does not portend the end of the world as we know it, it rarely rates as news…

…Richard S. Lindzen, the MIT Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, recently wrote, “There has been no warming since 1997 and no statistically significant warming since 1995.”

Al Gore and Barack Obama and other fanatics use this so-called “scientific consensus” as a hammer to silence critics and skeptics. John Kay of the Financial Times explains the problem with the “scientific consensus”,

Consensus is a political concept, not a scientific one.

Consensus finds a way through conflicting opinions and interests. Consensus is achieved when the outcome of discussion leaves everyone feeling they have been given enough of what they want. The processes of proper science could hardly be more different. The accomplished politician is a negotiator, a conciliator, finding agreement where none seemed to exist. The accomplished scientist is an original, an extremist, disrupting established patterns of thought. Good science involves perpetual, open debate, in which every objection is aired and dissents are sharpened and clarified, not smoothed over.

The “scientific consensus” demands immediate action! We cannot afford to wait, we are a “tipping point”!

Meteorologists…are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. If the climatic change is as profound as some of the pessimists fear, the resulting famines could be catastrophic. “A major climatic change would force economic and social adjustments on a worldwide scale,” warns a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences, “because the global patterns of food production and population that have evolved are implicitly dependent on the climate of the present century.”

Too bad for the fanatics that this quote comes from Newsweek Magazine’s April 28, 1975 cover story, “The Cooling World

Here’s Professor Lindzen explaining how this consensus is reached today, and why it is so flawed,

Truly inconvenient truths about climate change being ignored

Lindzen, probably the most qualified prominent global-warming sceptic, suggested that a number of changes in the way science is conducted have contributed to the rise of climate alarmism among American scientists.

Central to this is the importance of government funding to science. Much of that funding since World War II has occurred because scientists build up public fears (examples include fear of the USSR’s superiority in weapons or space travel, of health problems, of environmental degradation) and offer themselves as the solution to those fears. The administrators who work with the scientists join in with enthusiasm: much of their own funding is attached to the scientific grants. Lindzen says this state of affairs favours science involving fear, and also science that involves expensive activities such as computer modelling. He notes we have seen “the de-emphasis of theory because of its difficulty and small scale, the encouragement of simulation instead (with its call for large capital investment in computation), and the encouragement of large programs unconstrained by specific goals.

“In brief, we have the new paradigm where simulation and [computer] programs have replaced theory and observation, where government largely determines the nature of scientific activity, and where the primary role of professional societies is the lobbying of the government for special advantage.”

Lindzen believes another problem with climate science is that in America and Europe it is heavily colonised by environmental activists.

Here are just two examples that indicate the scale of the problem: the spokesman for the American Meteorological Society is a former staffer for Al Gore, and realclimate.org, probably the world’s most authoritative alarmist web site, was started by a public relations firm serving environmental causes.

If you think the economy is bad now, wait until the President elect gets his hands on it and starts regulating in the name of the almighty, cannot be questioned “scientific consensus”.

The polar ice caps are melting; must be global warming, right?

It might be. Or it might have a little something to do with this,

Volcanic eruptions reshape Arctic ocean floor: study

PARIS (AFP) - Recent massive volcanoes have risen from the ocean floor deep under the Arctic ice cap, spewing plumes of fragmented magma into the sea, scientists who filmed the aftermath reported Wednesday.

The eruptions — as big as the one that buried Pompei — took place in 1999 along the Gakkel Ridge, an underwater mountain chain snaking 1,800 kilometres (1,100 miles) from the northern tip of Greenland to Siberia.

Bruce McQuain of QandO points out the following,

Apparently science was convinced this couldn’t happen at the depths involved. Seems research was wrong. Sound familiar?

This is just another indication why it is insanity to rush towards the proposed, dracaonian solutions to global warming, when the research and scientific debate is so fluid, no matter what Al Gore says about it being “over”.

Another reason to take a long look at Fred

In addition to his solid policy proposals and committment to federalism, here’s another feather in Fred Thomspon’s cap for me,

‘Right With God’ But Not Churchgoer Says Thompson

Asked about his religious beliefs during an appearance before about 500 Republicans in South Carolina yesterday, Fred Thompson said he attends church when he visits his mother in Tennessee but does not belong to a church or attend regularly at his home in McLean, Va., just outside Washington. The actor and former senator, who was baptized in the Church of Christ, said he gained his values from “sitting around the kitchen table” and said he did not plan to speak about his religious beliefs on the stump. “I know that I’m right with God and the people I love,” he said, according to Bloomberg News Service. It’s “just the way I am not to talk about some of these things….And he did not seem particularly concerned that his admission would hurt him with voters. “Me getting up and talking about what a wonderful person I am and that sort of thing, I’m not comfortable with that, and I don’t think it does me any good,” he said. “People will make up their own mind about that, and that’s the way I like it.”

That’s good enough for me. In fact, that’s what I want to hear from a politician. I’m looking for a good and decent man or women who can be judged on their actions, not on what they say or don’t say about their faith. Bill Clinton made a big show of going to church and walked around clutching a bible, but what did that really mean? Nothing. I am sick and tired of all the talk about religion on the campaign trail, that’s just how I feel.

I’d prefer discussions about national security, how to increase the size of the military, improve veterans care, concealed carry laws in the wake of another shooting in a “gun free zone”. What about solutions to the subprime mess? The AMT and other onerous taxes? Anyone heard about the medicare problem or social security lately? If you have, you’ve been looking pretty hard for it.
