Hard to believe it was twelve years ago. If you listen to Pundit Review Radio, you know that Gregg and I are both Deadheads, something we share in common with Ann Coulter. Who knew there were so many conservative Deadheads?

This clip is from the Dead’s epic 1972 tour of Europe. This is from Copenhagen, Denmark and the song is, fittingly titled, He’s Gone.

Congratulations to the entire Sharratt family.

We have had the pleasure of speaking with Justin’s father Darryl on Pundit Review Radio twice in recent weeks. In the first interview, we provided a detailed overview of the case and the toll it has taken on the family.

In the second interview, we discussed Darryl’s uncomfortable and unsatisfying phone conversation with Congressman Murtha, who convicted Justin and the other Haditha Marines repeatedly in the media. Making this nightmare even worse, Murtha is the Sharratt’s congressmen. It took Darryl Sharratt 53 phone calls over 18 months to get Murtha on the line.

I am thrilled for the Sharratt family today.

All charges against Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt dropped by general

LOS ANGELES – All charges were dropped Thursday against Marine Lance Cpl. Justin L. Sharratt, who had been accused of killing three Iraqi brothers in response to a roadside bomb attack in Haditha in 2005.

“The evidence does not support a referral to a court-martial,” Lt. Gen. James Mattis wrote in his written decision. Under military law, a commanding general has total jurisdiction over a case.

Sharratt, 22, of Canonsburg, Pa., had been charged with murder in the deaths of three of those killed after the bomb attack on Nov. 19, 2005.

The decision to drop the charges followed an earlier recommendation from a hearing officer who listened to evidence in the case.

In his recommendation, Lt. Col. Paul Ware said murder charges brought against Sharratt were based on unreliable witness accounts, insupportable forensic evidence and questionable legal theories.

“The government version is unsupported by independent evidence,” Ware wrote in an 18-page report. “To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary.”

UPDATE: Gary Gross at Let Freedom Ring has a posted a message from Darryl Sharratt, check it out.

UPDATE II: Here’s Ralph Peters from this past Sunday night on this very topic,

UPDATE III: Darryl Sharratt will be returning to Pundit Review Radio this Sunday evening at 9:20pm EST. You can stream the show live at WRKO and call with questions or comments at 877-469-4322.

The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Thanks to Matt, Bruce is now on board and we are lucky to have him as part of the show.

From Bruce’s Project Hero profile

A tremendous story of a young soldier who disregarded danger and injury to himself in order to suppress the enemy’s fire and allow the evacuation of his wounded comrades..

ANN_Coulter0608

Ann was in a great mood when we spoke to her this week. Her most recent book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, is now out in paperback, and her next book is coming out this fall.

We covered a lot of ground, from the Dover Area School District case, the politicization of science, to the presidential race and the war in Iraq. We even talked about an op-ed in the Boston Globe about a new book titled Poems from Guantanamo: The Detainees Speak. I read her a sample,

HUMILIATED IN THE SHACKLES

When I heard pigeons cooing in the trees,
Hot tears covered my face.
When the lark chirped, my thoughts composed
A message for my son.
Mohammad, I am afflicted.
In my despair, I have no one but Allah for comfort.
The oppressors are playing with me,
As they move freely about the world.

Her reply was classic Coulter,

“Did they have any poems in there about killing all the Jews?”

Lt. Gen. Pacepa is the highest-ranking intelligence official ever to have defected from the Soviet bloc. His new book, “Programmed to Kill: Lee Harvey Oswald, the Soviet KGB, and the Kennedy Assassination” (Ivan R. Dee) will be published in November. And he had this to say in today’s Wall St. Journal article entitled, Propaganda Redux“,

During the Vietnam War we spread vitriolic stories around the world, pretending that America’s presidents sent Genghis Khan-style barbarian soldiers to Vietnam who raped at random, taped electrical wires to human genitals, cut off limbs, blew up bodies and razed entire villages. Those weren’t facts. They were our tales, but some seven million Americans ended up being convinced their own president, not communism, was the enemy. As Yuri Andropov, who conceived this dezinformatsiya war against the U.S., used to tell me, people are more willing to believe smut than holiness.

So now we have “the highest-ranking intelligence official ever to have defected from the Soviet bloc” claiming that the words that came out of Senator John F Kerry’s mouth defaming our military accusing them of comitting war crimes emenated directly from Soviet KGB Propaganda.

I wonder what the Junior Senator will have to say about that? Another “botched Joke” perhaps? No just a coincidence I am sure.
