This morning Michael Moore challenged Fred Thompson to a debate on healthcare. Two hours later, Thompson responded.

Bob Krumm has it exactly right,

I don’t know what’s the best part of this video response to Michael Moore’s publicity stunt: the cigar, the appropriate disdain, the lecture, the humor, or the quickness of the response, but what I do know is that Fred Thompson is the first politician anywhere to understand how the speed of the internet can change politics.

According to Jim Geherty’s source in the Thompson camp,

“He turned it around in under two hours, and he did it off the top of his head essentially in one take.”

Taking on Michael Moore doesn’t mean you get my vote for president. Being a strong, forceful, fearless defender of what you believe in does. After eight years of Dubya, an effective, forceful communicator is what I’m looking for.

To qualify for 642-812 or 350-030, it is important to first clear 642-825. Still, advanced courses like 640-822 might be needed.

Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan from Blogs for Bush joined us to discuss their terrific new book Caucus of Corruption: The Truth About The New Democratic Majority

It’s not that the GOP isn’t corrupt. It’s the inequity in the enthusiasm for the story when it’s a Democrat that is the issue. For a textbook example, click here

What is the most impressive thing about Hillary Clinton?

She is “a unifying force”. Yes, that’s what Joe Scarborough said.

Later on in the interview, Scarborough apologized to Hillary for “that impeachment thing” back when he was a Republican congressmen leading the charge against her husband. He said “those weren’t my greatest years”. He also congratulated Hillary on finally selecting a go-to hairdo. The cherry on top, he admitted to her that he has had plastic surgery since starting on MSNBC.

The phrase Jump The Shark comes to mind.

Don’t miss Michael Yon writing about General Petraeus’ Values Message and his recent letter to US troops on the subject of values.

We are making progress but the odds are still against us. We cannot take chances or play fast and loose with our own values. In addition to something immoral occurring, it could be the final straw for this war. All it would take is a weak leader behaving immorally, or a tired leader not recognizing the stress level of his soldiers and reacting accordingly, and we might have the proverbial straw that breaks this camel’s back.

This letter from General Petraeus deserves the widest possible dissemination. It should be published widely, and posted on every headquarters wall, and read aloud by every troop in Iraq and Afghanistan. We can pummel al Qaeda and other terrorists mercilessly and grind them into the dirt, but we cannot afford to turn local populations against us while we do it.

We are honored to have Bruce Mc Quain from QandO as regular part of the program. Bruce will be handling the Someone You Should Know series moving forward. Matt Burden from Blackfive strongly recommended that Bruce take over.

Why is Bruce such a great fit? On QandO, he has done a series very similar to Someone You Should Know. Project Hero tells the stories of those who were awarded the Silver Star. Bruce spent 28 years in the US military, is a Vietnam veteran, a Ranger and like Matt, was a member of the 82nd Airborne.

Someone You Should Know: Kanaan Merriken

This week, Bruce told us the incredible story of Kanaan Merriken and his amazing journey back to active duty service.

Now I don’t know about you, but I would expect that long road to be a recovery that would allow Kanaan Merriken to live a relatively normal life. The Army had medically retired him by that time. But that wasn’t the road Merriken chose. Merriken’s road to recovery included returning to active duty.

In November 2005, Ranger Kanaan Merriken, after the succesful appeal of his medical retirement, completed the RIP course for the second time (Ranger Indoctrination Program … a requirement for all candidates for duty with the 75th Ranger Regiment). He was selected as the classes’ Honor Graduate and was the leadership award winner.

He has subsequently rejoined the unit he so loves and is again a proud and serving member of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
