Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), on Congressional Resolutions Disapproving of the War in Iraq:

“For the Senate to take up a symbolic vote of no confidence on the eve of a decisive battle is unprecedented, but it is not inconsequential. It is an act which, I fear, will discourage our troops, hearten our enemies, and showcase our disunity.”

On Global Warming:

“Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.”

â?? Timothy Ball, Ph.D., Climatologist, Environmental Consultant and Chairman, Natural Resources Stewardship Project (Canada)

“Ethanol produces just slightly more energy than it takes to manufacture it. But now that the government is rigging energy markets with mandates, tariffs and subsidies, ethanol production might consume half of next year’s corn crop. The price of corn already has doubled in a year. Hence the tortilla turbulence south of the border. Forests will be felled (will fewer trees mean more global warming?) to clear land for growing corn, which requires fertilizer, the manufacture of which requires energy. Oh, my.”

Representative John Culberson (R-TX), Calling for the Resignation of Homeland Security Inspector General Richard L. Skinner After He Admitted His Office Gave False Information to Congress Regarding Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean:

“In my opinion, this false information was given to Members of Congress to throw us off the scent and cover up what appears to be an unjust criminal prosecution of two U.S. law-enforcement officers whose job was protecting our country’s borders from criminals and terrorists.”

Dean Barnett and I had the honor speaking with Michael Yon live from Baghdad this morning.

Our discussion began with today's transition ceremony that Michael attended where Gen. Petraeus officially took command of our great forces in Iraq. We also discussed whether or not the Iraqi's are "stepping up", what it is like to embed and what the chances are for success at this point.

As always, this is a compelling discussion with an amazing man and an incredibly important citizen journalist. If you can afford to support Michael’s work, you can do so here.

You can read Michael’s latest dispatch here.

The interview is also available for download at iTunes and Podcast Ready.

No change in political climate
By Ellen Goodman

I would like to say we’re at a point where global warming is impossible to deny. Let’s just say that global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers, though one denies the past and the other denies the present and future.

What a pathetic piece of commentary from Ellen Goodman of the equally pathetic Boston Globe, comparing people who doubt the sweeping claims of global warming alarmists with Holocaust deniers.

Al Gore said last week that only scientists bought and paid for were doubting his global warming claims. The longtime state climatologist in Oregon lost his job for daring to buck the conventional wisdom. His offense,

Oregon climatologist bucks mainstream on global warming

George Taylor says there are signs of global warming but burning fossil fuels aren’t necessarily to blame.

Taylor, who heads the Oregon Climate Service at Oregon State University, says natural changes have a bigger influence on global temperatures than people do, and the world has been warmer in the past.

Professor Richard Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, is a leading critic of the hysteria over global warming. He’s not saying it isn’t happening, he is simply questioning the cause and the extent of the damage. We spoke to Professor Lindzen on Pundit Review Radio which you can listen to here.

Ellen Goodman should do what her Globe colleague Alex Beam did, come down from her Ivory Tower and take the time to interview, instead of savage, skeptics like Professor Lindzen,

MIT’s inconvenient scientist
By Alex Beam

I decided to check out Lindzen for myself. He wasn??t hard to find on the 16th floor of MIT??s I.M. Pei-designed Building 54, and he answered as many questions as I had time to ask. He??s no big fan of Gore??s, having suffered through what he calls a ??Star Chamber? Congressional inquisition by the then senator . He said he accepted $10,000 in expenses and expert witness fees from fossil- fuel types in the 1990s, and has taken none of their money since.

He??s smart. He??s an effective debater. No wonder the Steve Schneiders and Al Gores of the world don??t want you to hear from him. It??s easier to call someone a shill and accuse him of corruption than to debate him on the merits.

What Ellen Goodman and Al Gore are doing is pure intimidation, plain and simple. The MSM is only too happy to go along with them. Dare go against their conventional wisdom and they savage you as corrupt, or worse, equate you with holocaust denier. Really, that is beneath contempt.

They are not interested in hearing the other side, of debating the issue. They are determined to intimidate people into silence. Kind of like Islamo fascists. Is that fair, of course not, it is an outrageous characterization, and that is the point. Goodman should be ashamed of herself, but of course she can’t be, people as arrogant as her, who feel as morally superior as her, simply don’t have the ability.

Iranian Nuclear Scientist assassinated by Mossad

According to a report in the London’s Sunday Times, an American source hinted that the scientist, Prof. Ardshir Hassanpur, 44, was assassinated by the Mossad.

His death was reported on January 21, six days late. At the time, his death was attributed to gas poisoning.

If your looking for more information and commentary on Iran, check out Jules Crittenden’s outstanding blog Forward Movement.

The Glenn and Helen Show: Michael Yon from Camp Victory

We caught up to him via satellite phone this afternoon and got his views on the surge (it will be “unlike anything we’ve seen before”), the status of Iraqi security forces (they’ve made “tremendous progress” since he was there last year, but things are “still dicey”), evidence of Iranian involvement in terror attacks in Iraq, what the Iraqi public thinks, and much more. Plus a couple of “normal explosions” in the background.

Hillary’s socialist stripe is showing. So much for appearing to be a moderate. She is advocating confiscation of oil company profits for the greater good. As I’ve said before in a post titled, In Defense of Big Oil, this kind of attack on “big business” is bad news,

This is short-term thinking, political pandering and bad policy all wrapped into one.

In that post, I also noted,

Gas Taxes Exceed Oil Companiesâ?? Profitsâ??Since 1977, governments collected more than $1.34 trillion, after adjusting for inflation, in gasoline tax revenuesâ??more than twice the amount of domestic profits earned by major U.S. oil companies during the same period.â?

and finally,

Where were they when the oil industry lost more jobs between 1986 and 1992 than the steel or auto industries? Where were the press conferences then?

Here is Hillary, in all her monotone, stiff, insipid glory,

I have a better idea Hillary, let’s get Big Oil to give you 1% of their profits to invest in the commodities market! With your track record we could wipe out the national debt in weeks. After all, you did turn $1000 into $100,000 trading cattle futures, didn’t you?
