NBC News anchor Brian Williams is hosting tonight. Here’s the self-important Williams on his star turn tonight,
“The rules are changing quickly,” he says. “No one should worry my stewardship of journalism at NBC is any different. This is my night off. This is clearly labeled a comedy-variety show.”
Phew, thank God for that. I was nervous there for a minute.
Normally this wouldn’t even hit my radar, but when it comes to Williams and SNL, who can forget his disgraceful performance last fall in Boston, when he stood up nearly every living hero who has been awarded the Medal of Honor in order to appear in a lame sketch on SNL.
FLASHBACK: Brian Williams Dishonorable Discharge
NBC Nightly News nabob Brian Williams came under fire yesterday after he reportedly beat a hasty retreat from his MC duties at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society soiree in Boston to appear on Saturday Night Live.
One event participant griped to the Track that the newsie was there for the reception, then kicked off the program around 7:30 and was out of there by 8:30.
And shortly after 11:30, Williams was Live from New York!
Six months ago, we’re told, the NBC anchorman had re-upped to host the annual Patriot Awards gala that honored, in addition to the 61 medal-wearing war heroes, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace.
“You think the man in charge of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan had somewhere else to be than in Boston that night,†groused another fired-up dinner guest. Ooh, ouch.
As we noted at the time,
Nice priorities Brian. A two minute segment on a dead TV show that nobody watches over hanging with the majority of living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor, not to mention the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I guess when your competition is Katie Couric, you can afford to act like a self-absorbed, pompous ass.
Break a leg Brian.
…somebody better tell the citizens of Ramadi,
This used to be the most dangerous city in Iraq. Not anymore, and there is only one reason for it, the incredible work of the United States military. It would have been much easier to do what the Democrats have been advocating for three years, to walk away. Thankfully, for the US, and the citizens of Iraq, we did not.
What Gen. Petreaus has accomplished in less than a year is incredible. He should be, without a doubt, Time Magazine’s Man of the Year. He’ll probably lose to Al Gore, because after all, Gore is combating “the most dangerous crisis we have ever faced.”
Hat Tip: Hot Air
Democrats are not only favored in the tone of the coverage. They get more coverage period. This is particularly evident on morning news shows, which “produced almost twice as many stories (51% to 27%) focused on Democratic candidates than on Republicans.”
The most flagrant bias, however, was found in newspapers. In reviewing front-page coverage in 11 newspapers, the study found the tone positive in nearly six times as many stories about Democrats as it was negative.
And what right-wing group did this survey? The Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy. As Investor’s Business Daily noted today, Even Harvard Finds The Media Biased
Hat Tip: Instapundit, who went with the headline, Dog Bites Man

Is This the End of Evangelicalism in America?
By Gregg Jackson
Friday, November 2, 2007A disturbing sign of the state of American evangelicalism has appeared in the seventh year of the 21 st century in a Townhall.com article dated October 18,2007 entitled, “Why Evangelicals Should Support Mitt Romney” by Wayne Grudem. One of America’s most popular evangelical theologians, Grudem is trying to persuade evangelicals to vote a Mormon for president. Wayne Grudem’s “Systematic Theology” is the gold standard of evangelical doctrine and a sacred fixture in evangelical seminaries, pastor libraries and Bible studies.
In it, he defines Mormonism as “clearly a false church.” He shows why Mormonism has never been included in the Christian Church: It contradicts major Christian doctrine regarding the person of God, Christ and His work and salvation plan. A cornerstone of the Mormon Church, Grudem writes, is the classic heresy of Saint Paul’s day – angel worship. In his book, Grudem insists that an orthodox Christian must practice the theology he reads. So why would he step forward to become part of the Mitt Romney propaganda blitz trying to mislead evangelicals into doing what would shock most evangelicals in American history: elect a Mormon for president?

…for Democrats…
Today, it is a MUCH stronger than expected jobs report,
The economy added 166,000 jobs last month, more than twice as many as economists had expected. The report appeared some trader anxiety over the health of the economy.
Earlier in the week, 3rd quarter GDP came in at 3.9%.
Real gross domestic product — the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States — increased at an annual rate of 3.9 percent in the third quarter of 2007, according to advance estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 3.8 percent.
A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth. This is the 24th consecutive quarter of economic growth. Despite these inconvenient truths, the media is pushing their agenda, hard. No wonder 2/3 of the public think we are in a recession. What a disgrace.
And finally, this chart from Larry Kudlow,

Real disposable income—one of the most important indicators of the economy and the health of consumers—showed a remarkable 4.1 percent growth over the past year.
Yea, let’s repeal those tax cuts before this prosperity spreads any further! The Democrats have a great plan to “fix” this “broken” economy, the largest tax increase in history. Good luck with that.
