One day after complimenting a Massachusetts politician (Mayor Menino) for doing right by an Iraq war veteran, it’s back to normal today. In a state with a $1 billion surplus, lawmakers couldn’t find $8 million to help veterans pay for college. That is .008% of the surplus. Democrats hold 139 out of 160 seats in the Mass. House and 34 of 40 seats in the Senate.

$tingy thanks for Iraq duty: Funds for tuition waivers MIA
By Dave Wedge and Laura Crimaldi/ Exclusive
Lawmakers have slammed the classroom door shut on Massachusetts soldiers home from Iraq and seeking to go to state college, failing to cough up $8 million needed for crucial tuition waivers.
Army and Air National Guard soldiers expecting to be rewarded for their war duty under Gov. Mitt Romneyâ??s â??Welcome Homeâ? bill found the welcome mat ripped out last week by the Legislature as it ended its formal session without approving money for the waivers.
â??One of the main reasons I joined the Army was to get money to go to college,â? said David Cowing, 23, of Rockland, an Iraq war veteran who is taking out at least $3,500 in loans to cover tuition for his first year at UMass-Boston because his benefits wonâ??t kick in in time to pay the first bills.
â??I went and fought in Iraq. I shouldnâ??t have to worry about tuition. I should be able to go wherever I want.â?Â
Lashing out at the â??wrong prioritiesâ? of lawmakers, Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey said, â??The Legislature has made the appalling decision to vote on things like tuition breaks for illegal immigrants, but they couldnâ??t take the time to take a vote to help our Massachusetts war heroes . . . I find it deeply disturbing.â?Â
National Guard officials say the bureaucratic red tape has left some soldiers scrambling to meet tuition costs.

Mark Noonan of Blogs4Bush does a great job explaining “What We Are Fighting For.”
The status quo in the Arab/Moslem world could not be allowed to continue – fundamental change of some sort was required. Under the leadership of President Bush, the change we have settled on is a change towards liberty. It is risky; it is dangerous; it is difficult – but, for an American, it is really the only thing to try. We could be at this for a generation before we really see the results of all our blood and treasure – but who can really say this isn’t worth the effort? Were we to just allow our brothers and sisters in the Moslem world to fester in poverty, ignorance and oppression? Allow them to just stew until the next batch of misguided fools attacked us? I think not.
Is this what liberals mean when they say they represent mainstream Americans?
Do you believe that it should be against the law for someone — anyone — to whisk a minor across state lines for an abortion without the knowledge or consent of the child’s parent, guardian or a court authority?
According to nationwide polls, 75-85 percent of the American people say “YES!”
And, Senate Democrats say “NO!”
But THAT’S NOT THE MOST SICKENING PART! Just wait until you hear — as radio personality Paul Harvey would say — “THE REST OF THE STORY!”
The Child Custody Protection Act (CCPA) â?? which would make it a federal crime to take a minor girl across a state line to get an abortion when her home state requires parental notification or court approval — had already passed the House by a vote of 270-157.
When the bill came up for a vote in the Senate last week, 14 Democrats sided with the Republican majority and PASSED CCPA by a vote of 65-34.
Then MINUTES LATER, Senate Democrats — including the 14 who voted IN FAVOR of the bill — reached deep into their bag of dirty tricks and found a way to EFFECTIVELY FILIBUSTER this bill which had already PASSED BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS!
Read rest of sickening story to see how Dick “The Turbin” Durbin took a page out of Senator “I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it” Kerry’s play bookhere.
Lanny Davis, former special counsel to President Clinton between 1996-98 had this to say about liberal bloggers in the WSJ:
Now, in the closing days of the Lieberman primary campaign, I have reluctantly concluded that I was wrong. The far right does not have a monopoly on bigotry and hatred and sanctimony. Here are just a few examples (there are many, many more anyone with a search engine can find) of the type of thing the liberal blog sites have been posting about Joe Lieberman:
â?¢ “Ned Lamont and his supporters need to [g]et real busy. Ned needs to beat Lieberman to a pulp in the debate and define what it means to be an AMerican who is NOT beholden to the Israeli Lobby” (by “rim,” posted on Huffington Post, July 6, 2006).
â?¢ “Joe’s on the Senate floor now and he’s growing a beard. He has about a weeks growth on his face. . . . I hope he dyes his beard Blood red. It would be so appropriate” (by “ctkeith,” posted on Daily Kos, July 11 and 12, 2005).
â?¢ On “Lieberman vs. Murtha”: “as everybody knows, jews ONLY care about the welfare of other jews; thanks ever so much for reminding everyone of this most salient fact, so that we might better ignore all that jewish propaganda [by Lieberman] about participating in the civil rights movement of the 60s and so on” (by “tomjones,” posted on Daily Kos, Dec. 7, 2005).
â?¢ “Good men, Daniel Webster and Faust would attest, sell their souls to the Devil. Is selling your soul to a god any worse? Leiberman cannot escape the religious bond he represents. Hell, his wife’s name is Haggadah or Muffeletta or Diaspora or something you eat at Passover” (by “gerrylong,” posted on the Huffington Post, July 8, 2006).
â?¢ “Joe Lieberman is a racist and a religious bigot” (by “greenskeeper,” posted on Daily Kos, Dec. 7, 2005).
And these are some of the nicer examples.
Welcome to reality Lanny. Where have you been, Under a rock?
The leading lefty-blogosphere is nothing but an echo chamber of seething anti-Bush/ anti-Israel hatred. But we have known that for quite a while now. Nothing new here.
But Lanny you should admit that your party has quite a public track record of racist statements-not from kook fringe bloggers (now the core of the Dem Party) but from leading Democrat politicians.
For example:
Democrat Senator Robert Byrd from West Virginia was a Kleagle in the KKK and used the term â??white ni–erâ? twice in a t.v. interview on “Fox News Sunday” just a few years ago.
Democrat Al Sharpton who ran for the presidency in 2004 has a history of making anti-white/anti-Semitic remarks: In 1987 Sharpton accused Steve Pagones and a group of “white men” of abducting, raping, and smearing feces on 15-year old Tawana Brawley. The crime never happened and Sharpton was ordered to pay Pagones $345,000 but Sharpton to this day refuses to apologize for the highly charged incendiary racist remarks.
Sharpton, in 1991, railed against the “diamond merchants”- code for Jews- with “the blood of innocent babies” on their hands. After mobilizing hundreds of protesters to march in a Jewish neighborhood to protest the accidental killing of a 7-year old black child in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights, Sharpton leads chants of, “No justice, no peace.” And “Kill the Jews!” Yankel Rosenbaum is surrounded by a mob and then stabbed to death.
Democrat Sharpton, in 1995, used the term “cracker” to describe a white Jewish owner who raised the rent on a black tenant.
Former Democrat Presidential candidate Jesse Jackson used the anti-Semitic term “hymietown” to describe New York City and has admitted publicly to spitting in white peoples’ food.
And I kind of doubt that Lanny isn’t familiar with some of the racist comments his ex-booses wife Mrs. Clinton has uttered in the past:
Patterson observed Hillary standing at the bottom of the stairs in the governor’s mansion, and Bill at the top of the stairs with little Chelsea beside him, as Hillary screamed at him at the top of her lungs: “Goddamn stupid f—ing fool!” [NewsMax, 15 July 2000]
Patterson stated that Bill and Hillary Clinton would frequently argue with each other using the worst expletives known to mankind, sometimes in the presence of their daughter Chelsea. Some of the anti-Semitic slurs with which she commonly laced her tirades against Bill were “Jew motherf—er,” “Jew Boy” and “Jew Bastard.” [NewsMax, 15 and 17 July 2000]
“If she disagreed with Bill Clinton or she disagreed with some of the Jewish community in Little Rock — or some of the ethnic community — she would often make these statements.” “She would say ‘Jew Bastard’ or call her husband a ‘Jew boy’ or a ‘motherf—ing Jew’,” Patterson told the WABC New York radio audience. [Carl Limbacher and NewsMax Staff, 17 July 2000]
Patterson said he heard Hillary “utter anti-Jewish epithets between 10 and 20 times over the course of his six years at the Arkansas governor’s mansion.” [NewsMax, 17 July 2000]
Here is the entire article here (warning, language is very vulgar)
It’s not just virulent racist/anti-semitic bloggers Lanny. It seems that racist/anti-semitic remarks tend to be rather prevelant among Democrat Presidential Candidates as well.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm.
It’s not often that we stop to praise a Massachusetts politician. This state is a disgrace, a corruption filled incestuous hackarama where the outrages pile up so fast and so furious that the citizens canâ??t keep up. Finally, some good news,

Heroâ??s welcome on the job – Mayor wants amputee for BFD
Tuesday, August 8, 2006
Mayor Thomas M. Menino will have one message for Iraq war hero Brian Fountaine when he returns to Dorchester this month: Welcome to the Boston Fire Department.
Menino said itâ??s the â??least the city could do,â? is help Fountaine, a 24-year-old soldier who lost his legs in a blast while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.
The Herald reported yesterday that, despite the life-changing injury, the Dorchester native never gave up his dream of becoming the third generation in a long line of men who devoted themselves to the Boston Fire Department. The mayor says thatâ??s a dream that will be made reality.
â??Brian is an American hero,â? Menino told the Herald yesterday. â??I would hope that as a city we could at least help him reach his goals. We need to step up and help him realize his dream and get him some sort of job with the Boston Fire Department.â?Â

that Joementum takes over and Lieberman wins. I just think the people of CT will get inside the voting booth and say to themselves, “It sure was great to put a scare into old Joe, but I just can’t pull the trigger for this pandering empty suit Ned Lamont.”
There you have it. CT saves the Democrat Party from Jumping the Shark.
Last night on our show editor at large Peter Beinart of the New Republic warned that liberals better come to the realization that Global Jihadism poses more of a threat to liberals and America than Bush and the right. Today in the Wall St. Journal Martin Peretz the editor in chief of The New Republic has this to say about one of the last remaining liberal “hawks” left in the Democrat Party in the U.S. Senate and his anti-war opponent Ned Lamont in tommorow’s Democrat primary in CT:
At least in this sense, Mr. Lamont comes to this campaign for the U.S. Senate from absolutely nowhere — and it shows in his pulpy statements on public issues. Here is a paradigmatic one: “We need to provide parents and communities the support they need to assure that children start their school day ready to learn.” Of course, he also thinks that U.S. troops should be replaced by the U.N. in Iraq. Does he know anything at all about the history of the idea that he so foolishly rescues from the dust? So what we have in this candidacy is someone, with no public record to speak of but with perhaps a quarter of a billion dollars to his name, who wants to be a senator. Mr. Lamont has almost no experience in public life. He was a cable television entrepreneur, a run-of-the-mill contemporary commercant with unusually easy access to capital.
and this about Senator Lieberman:
Yes, Mr. Lieberman sometimes sounds a bit treacly. He certainly is preachy, and advertises his sense of his own righteousness. But he has also been brave, and bravery is a rare trait in politicians, especially in states that are really true-blue or, for that matter, really true-red. The blogosphere Democrats, whose victory Mr. Lamont’s will be if Mr. Lamont wins, have made Iraq the litmus test for incumbents. There are many reasonable, and even correct, reproofs that one may have for the conduct of the war. They are, to be sure, all retrospective. But one fault cannot be attributed to the U.S., and that is that we are on the wrong side. We are at war in a just cause, to protect the vulnerable masses of the country from the helter-skelter ideological and religious mass-murderers in their midst. Our enemies are not progressive peasants as was imagined three and four decades ago.
Karl Rove’s “dream”
The Lamont ascendancy, if that is what it is, means nothing other than that the left is trying, and in places succeeding, to take back the Democratic Party. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters have stumped for Mr. Lamont. As I say, we have been here before. Ned Lamont is Karl Rove’s dream come true. If he, and others of his stripe, carry the day, the Democratic party will lose the future, and deservedly.
Beinart and Peretz get it. It will be interesting to see if their fellow Democrats in CT who will be going to the polls tomorrow to vote get it.
